ABOUT The Commercial Rights Team

The Drama Business Affairs team supports BBC Studios Drama Productions by providing legal, commercial, and business affairs guidance, working on intellectual property rights, contributor agreements, and the development of drama projects. As a Business Affairs Assistant, you’ll gain exposure to the full scripted production process, assist with contracts, clearance, negotiations, and legal research, with a focus on Welsh-language productions like Pobol Y Cwm but also supporting flagship shows like EastEnders, Casualty and Silent Witness. Fluency in Welsh and an understanding of BBC programming is essential.

THE ROLE

Role

The role purpose is to support the BBC in acquiring, creating, and distributing Intellectual Property to maximise audience value and commercial return in a digital, global, and commercial environment by:

  • Providing excellent contract and rights administration.
  • Providing excellent business support and team coordination.
  • Using systems and processes efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships internally and externally
  • The role requires a ‘one BBC’ approach with close teamwork and/or embedded ways of working with all Divisions across the organisation. This is central to our purpose and culture and is critical to this role.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

Essential Criteria

  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of developing good working relationships.
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of databases and administration systems.
  • Excellent organisation, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to examine and summarise complex data.
  • Basic level of understanding of IP and contract law in England and Wales.
  • Fluent in Welsh.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of production and deal-making
  • Knowledge of historic BBCS contracting systems
