Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design Manager, based in New Delhi office. The BESS Design Manager will oversee the comprehensive design, development, and integration of energy storage systems.
Qualifications & Experience:
• A degree BE in electrical engineering from a recognized university is a must.
• Candidate with a minimum of 5 to 15 years of experience in the areas of Renewable Energy Systems like Solar PV, Wind Energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems. A minimum of 2 years should be of working on the design of the utility scale BESS (Battery Energy Storage System).
• Knowledge of different applications of battery systems and dispatch optimization for different applications.
• Preparation of single line diagrams and layout for the battery energy storage system and coordination with the electrical, civil and PV design teams for complete BESS package.
• Basic understanding of the overall integration of BMS, EMS and SCADA systems would be an added advantage.
• Prepare/ review technical specifications for BESS systems and other electrical equipment, preparation of scopes of work documents and performance/ testing documents.
• Shall have a good knowledge of the battery parameters, main characteristics of current battery technologies and relate them to the battery sizing and optimization.
• Should have a profound knowledge of Bi-directional inverter operation, control, and integration with battery systems. Familiarity with DC/DC converter operation and application and should have experience in selection and sizing of power conversion devices.
• Clear understanding of the different parameters for the design, selection, and sizing of the batteries as well as leveraging the parameters to arrive at the most optimum sizes of the batteries.
• Should have a good understanding of Battery Energy Storage System chemistry selection, design, performance modelling, lifetime estimation simulations of batteries, degradation and augmentation schedules.
• Shall have detailed knowledge of the latest UL, IEEE, European, IS and IEC standards on design, safety, installation, testing and validations for the battery energy storage systems including battery and bi-directional converters.
• Experience with microgrid and hybrid energy system simulation tools (Homer, Homer Grid, Fractal OR Plexos) and power system simulation tools (PSS®E, Dig-Silent Power-Factory, ETAP) would be preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience in the design of battery system sizing using simulation tools like MATLAB or equivalent software will be an added advantage but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of energy modelling and LCOE/ LCOS (as applicable) calculation for Hybrid Renewable Energy project (especially Solar/ Wind + BESS) would be an added advantage.
