Position Overview

The Bus Person plays a key role in creating a positive and efficient morning experience at the Point Loma Café. This position supports the service team during busy breakfast hours and assists with room service delivery as needed. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys staying active, working as part of a team, and delivering friendly, detail-oriented service to both restaurant and hotel guests.

What You’ll Do

Dining Room & Café Support

  • Clear, reset, and clean tables efficiently using proper methods for stacking dishes, glassware, and silverware
  • Polish silverware and fold linens to maintain presentation standards
  • Assist servers to ensure prompt, courteous guest service
  • Deliver food to guests in the dining room and lounge
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen window/pass-through area
  • Remove unnecessary items from tables to keep dining areas guest-ready

Room Service Support

  • Answer the Room Service phone line, take orders, and assist guests with questions
  • Verify guest name and room number in the POS system for accurate room charges
  • Ensure room service orders are complete, accurate, and well packaged with appropriate condiments, utensils, and napkins
  • Deliver food and beverages promptly to guest rooms
  • Respond to guest requests for additional food or beverage items
  • Collect used trays, containers, and bags from guest room hallways as needed
  • Operate the room service cart safely and courteously, yielding to pedestrians and vehicles at all times

Teamwork & Safety

  • Communicate clearly with kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth morning operations
  • Inform servers, managers, or chefs of any guest concerns or dissatisfaction
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and food handling guidelines
  • Minimize safety hazards by adhering to established procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily operations

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent use of hands and arms, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Team members may climb, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed. The position may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, hot kitchen equipment, sharp tools, and moving mechanical parts. Noise levels are typically moderate to loud, especially during peak breakfast hours.
