Role Overview
We are looking for a highly driven and technically strong Backend Team Lead who will own the backend architecture, guide the engineering team, and ensure scalable, secure, and high-performance systems. This role is a mix of technical leadership and hands-on development. You will lead backend strategy, mentor developers, and architect distributed systems that support real-time marketplace integrations and high transaction volumes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Design and own backend architecture, microservices structure, and API frameworks.
- Define engineering standards, coding guidelines, and backend best practices.
- Make high-level design decisions for scalability, security, and reliability.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies aligned with business goals.
2. Team Management & Mentorship
- Lead and manage a team of backend developers.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce quality control processes.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
- Support recruitment, technical interviews, and team expansion.
3. Backend Development
- Develop and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Lead integrations with marketplaces (eg. Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify, ONDC), payment gateways, and logistics systems.
- Build real-time synchronization systems for inventory and order management.
- Optimize backend systems for performance and fault tolerance.
4. AI / LLM & Agentic Systems
- Design, develop, and lead backend systems leveraging LLMs and agentic architectures for intelligent automation and decision-making.
- Integrate and orchestrate API-based AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) with internal systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Build and optimize AI-driven workflows, including prompt orchestration, tool-calling, and multi-agent coordination, with robust monitoring and cost controls.
5. Infrastructure & DevOps
- Work as DevOps for CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
- Implement logging, monitoring, and observability tools.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms.
6. Security & Compliance
- Implement secure authentication and authorization frameworks.
- Ensure data security and compliance standards.
- Identify and mitigate system vulnerabilities.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and Business teams.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Drive sprint planning and technical roadmap alignment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience working with Node.js-based frameworks, with strong hands-on expertise and preference for TypeScript.
- Minimum 2–3 years in a technical leadership or team lead role.
- Strong knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker & K8s.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode) to enhance productivity and code quality.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with AI/ML fundamentals and API-based AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) for backend system design and integration.
- Knowledge of message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS).
- Understanding of system design, caching, and distributed systems.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to manage delivery timelines and engineering priorities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, and align teams toward shared technical and business goals.

Preferred (Bonus) Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Prior experience working on SaaS products or e-commerce platforms.
- Familiarity with Python for AI integration.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress).
