We’re hiring a Backend Engineer in Product Platform to design and build the backend systems and APIs that power Nucleus’s AI products. This is a high-impact engineering role for someone who cares deeply about system design, product quality, and the infrastructure foundations that make advanced AI experiences dependable in production.
About the role
As a Backend Engineer on our product platform, you will build and evolve the services, APIs, and core backend architecture that support our user-facing AI products. You’ll work closely with product, frontend, and cross-functional engineering teams to create systems that are scalable, secure, and reliable from the start.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning backend problems end to end: from API design and service implementation to performance, observability, and production reliability. You should be comfortable balancing product speed with sound engineering judgment, and excited to help shape the backend foundations behind a growing AI platform.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Nucleus’s AI products and platform capabilities.
- Partner closely with product and frontend teams to translate product requirements into clean, reliable backend systems.
- Develop backend architectures that support evolving product needs while maintaining strong performance and maintainability.
- Improve system reliability through thoughtful service design, observability, monitoring, debugging, and incident response practices.
- Build with security in mind, applying best practices across authentication, authorization, data handling, secrets management, and service communication.
- Optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and operational efficiency in production environments.
- Contribute to API design, service contracts, data models, and engineering standards that improve developer velocity across teams.
- Work across the stack of internal platform services and product infrastructure to help ship polished, dependable user experiences.
What we’re looking for
- Strong software engineering experience in backend development, ideally in product or platform-oriented environments.
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.
- Experience designing and building REST APIs, backend services, and distributed systems used in production.
- Solid understanding of scalability, reliability, security, and performance considerations in modern backend systems.
- Experience working with databases, caching layers, message queues, or event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with product managers, frontend engineers, and other cross-functional partners.
- Good judgment, strong ownership, and a bias toward building systems that are both practical and durable.
