About The Role
We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve a Python-based Core API: a modular monolith built on FastAPI, async SQLAlchemy 2.0, Pydantic v2, and Alembic, running on a multi-tenant Postgres with row-level security. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance backend services that are integral to our platform's core functionalities. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for implementing robust business logic, ensuring system correctness, and maintaining high standards of code quality and security. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex systems that directly impact our operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience building Python backend systems in a production environment. Deep expertise in FastAPI, Pydantic v2, and async SQLAlchemy 2.0 is essential, with a clear understanding that asynchronous programming is the default paradigm. Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL, including advanced indexing techniques such as B-tree, GIN, expression, and partial indexes, along with a solid grasp of query planning, transaction semantics, and advisory locks, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a disciplined approach to software correctness, including the implementation of state machines, idempotency, and audit trails. Comfort with analyzing unfamiliar code to extract business rules and translate them into reliable system behavior is highly valued. Additional experience with TimescaleDB hypertables, domain-driven design, multi-tenant Postgres row-level security, and managing system migrations will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a FastAPI service utilizing async SQLAlchemy 2.0, Pydantic v2 models, Alembic migrations, and strict typing (mypy strict).
- Establish and enforce patterns across domain modules, setting conventions that ensure consistency and maintainability across the engineering team.
- Implement state machines for core domain entities, including idempotent transitions and audit-grade event emission to ensure reliable state management.
- Enforce role-based access control (RBAC) on all state-mutating endpoints, incorporate idempotency keys, handle RFC 7807 error envelopes, and publish post-commit events to maintain system integrity and security.
- Accurately implement and uphold business rules across reporting and KPI surfaces, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain module-boundary discipline, utilizing tools such as import-linter to enforce architectural boundaries within the codebase.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation efforts to foster high-quality software development practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system migrations, feature enhancements, and performance optimizations.
