About The Company
NurseBee is an innovative healthcare staffing startup dedicated to transforming the way medical professionals connect with healthcare facilities. Leveraging cutting-edge AI-powered tools, NurseBee aims to streamline the process of matching nurses with hospitals and clinics, ensuring faster placement and better resource utilization. Our platform operates at the intersection of data engineering, machine learning, and real-time API development, creating a seamless experience for both healthcare providers and professionals. As a rapidly growing organization, NurseBee values innovation, agility, and a commitment to improving healthcare delivery through technology.
About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer to join our team on a contract basis, working remotely from India. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable APIs, integrating large language models (LLMs) and machine learning (ML) models into our production workflows, and owning the data layer. You will work closely with the frontend engineering team and report directly to the founding team, enjoying a high degree of autonomy and influence over the technical direction of our platform. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a pioneering healthcare technology startup, utilizing your expertise in multiple programming languages and AI/ML integrations to make a tangible impact in healthcare staffing solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in backend development, with proven experience in building production-grade APIs and integrating AI/ML models. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript, along with 2 years of experience in Python, including familiarity with data science libraries such as pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, or XGBoost. Experience with PostgreSQL, RESTful API design, and cloud services like AWS is essential. Additionally, familiarity with AI/ML API integrations, vector databases, and deploying ML models as microservices is highly desirable. Candidates should have a track record of delivering multiple web applications from scratch, integrating external APIs with error handling, and working with sensitive data in regulated industries such as healthcare.
Responsibilities
As a Backend Developer at NurseBee, your responsibilities will include designing and implementing scalable, secure APIs to support our healthcare staffing platform. You will integrate large language models and machine learning APIs, such as OpenAI or Anthropic, into our workflows, ensuring efficient and reliable operations. Managing the data layer is crucial, including schema design, query optimization, and transaction management within PostgreSQL. You will collaborate closely with the frontend team to ensure seamless integration and user experience. Additionally, you will develop and deploy ML models, monitor their performance, and iterate based on feedback. Handling external API integrations with robust error handling and retries will be part of your daily tasks. You will also contribute to maintaining security standards, including implementing JWT, bcrypt, RBAC, and HTTPS/TLS protocols, especially given the sensitive nature of healthcare data.
Benefits
NurseBee offers a dynamic work environment with the flexibility of remote work from India. As a contract team member, you will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that directly impact healthcare delivery. We promote a collaborative culture that values continuous learning and professional growth. Although this is a contractual position, you will be part of a fast-paced startup environment with the potential for future opportunities. You will also gain exposure to cutting-edge AI and ML technologies, cloud infrastructure, and healthcare-specific compliance standards, enriching your technical expertise and industry knowledge.
