About The Role
We are seeking a talented Backend Developer to join our team on a contract basis, working remotely from India. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable APIs that power our AI-driven healthcare staffing platform. You will integrate large language models (LLMs) and machine learning (ML) models into our production workflows, ensuring robust data management and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both Node.js and Python, enabling seamless development across our tech stack. This position offers high autonomy, requiring you to work closely with the frontend engineering team and report directly to the founding team. Your contributions will be crucial in shaping the core infrastructure that supports our AI solutions and ensures a reliable, secure, and efficient platform.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience developing production APIs using Node.js and TypeScript, with proficiency in frameworks such as Express.js or similar.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in Python, including familiarity with data science libraries like pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, or XGBoost.
- Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and transaction management.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, understanding HTTP methods, status codes, authentication patterns, and versioning strategies.
- Proficiency in integrating AI/ML APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar LLM providers, including embeddings and vector search techniques.
- Hands-on experience with deploying and managing at least one production machine learning model, covering classification, ranking, or regression tasks.
- Familiarity with AWS services, including EC2/ECS, RDS, S3, and basic networking concepts.
- Strong knowledge of authentication and security protocols, including JWT, bcrypt, RBAC, HTTPS/TLS.
- Experience shipping and maintaining at least two production web applications from scratch.
- Ability to integrate multiple external APIs with robust error handling and retry logic.
- Experience working with applications handling sensitive data, such as PII, financial, or healthcare information.
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure APIs that support our AI-driven healthcare staffing platform.
- Integrating large language models and machine learning models into production workflows, ensuring performance and reliability.
- Managing the data layer, including database schema design, query optimization, and transaction management.
- Collaborating closely with frontend developers to ensure seamless integration and user experience.
- Implementing security best practices to protect sensitive healthcare data and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Optimizing API performance and reliability through monitoring, logging, and proactive troubleshooting.
- Participating in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high code quality standards.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of our tech stack, including adopting new tools and methodologies.
- Working with external API providers and managing error handling, retries, and failover strategies.
- Supporting deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of ML models and backend services.
