Job details:
If you love turning clean Python into production-grade services, obsess over a well-written SQL query, and get genuinely excited about LLMs and agents actually doing things.
At our end, we are building our flagship platform that blends data, workflow automation, and agentic AI to help enterprises make smarter decisions, faster. We are looking for a hands-on engineer with 2–4 years of relevant experience who can own services end-to-end: design, build, deploy, monitor, and iterate. You’ll ship production code, shape the architecture, and help us push the boundaries of what agentic AI can do inside a real product.
Why This Role Is Different
- Real ownership. You own modules end-to-end — design, ship, monitor, iterate.
- Full-stack backend scope. APIs, databases, cloud infra, auth, observability — the whole stack, your call.
- AI that’s more than hype. Work with LLMs, RAG pipelines, and autonomous agents that do actual work.
- Small team, big leverage. Direct collaboration with senior engineers and the founding team. No layers, no politics.
- Career trajectory. A clear path to senior engineering and tech-lead roles as NUDGE scales.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Design and ship RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI that power core modules of NUDGE.
- Model, query, and optimize data in relational databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL) — writing SQL that a DBA would be proud of.
- Dip into NoSQL stores (MongoDB / DynamoDB / Redis) for caching, session, and document workloads.
- Deploy, configure, and monitor services on AWS — EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM, and friends.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization flows using JWT and OAuth 2.0.
- Break monoliths into microservices or defend the monolith when that’s the right call.
- Build, orchestrate, and evaluate AI agents that plan, call tools, and complete multi-step tasks.
- Handle long-running workloads gracefully with background tasks, Celery/RQ workers, and async I/O.
- Collaborate through Git pull requests, code reviews, and well-written commit messages.
Must-Have Skills
Core Engineering
- Python: strong grasp of OOP, modules/packages, virtual environments, async/await, decorators, and the GIL (you should be able to explain why CPU-bound work needs multiprocessing and I/O-bound work loves asyncio).
- FastAPI: you know how to design clean routers, Pydantic models, dependency-injected auth, and background tasks. Bonus if you can explain why FastAPI’s ASGI + async model is faster than Flask/Django for I/O-heavy APIs.
- SQL (non-negotiable): joins (inner, left, right, cross, self), window functions, CTEs, indexing, query plans, and knowing when a query is slow because of the data, not the code.
- AWS: hands-on with at least a few of EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, or ECS — and the discipline to wire them up with least-privilege IAM.
- Git: branching, rebasing, resolving conflicts without panicking, and writing PR descriptions humans actually want to read.
Good-to-Have
- NoSQL: MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch — know when document/key-value/search beats a relational table.
- AI & Agentic AI: exposure to LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock), prompt engineering, tool-calling, RAG, vector databases, and agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or similar).
- DevOps hygiene: Docker, CI/CD, basic Linux, and knowing what a systemd unit is.
- Performance instincts: caching, query optimization, N+1 detection, connection pooling, and profiling.
Who You Are
- 2–4 years of relevant, hands-on experience building and shipping production backend services, bonus if some of that was at an early-stage product company.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or a track record strong enough that we don’t need to ask.
- You’ve owned features (not just tickets) from spec to production, and you have the war stories to prove it.
- You read documentation before you ask questions, and you ask great questions when documentation falls short.
- You care about clean code, code reviews, and the difference between a PR that’s done and one that’s merged.
- You’re curious about AI but skeptical of magic, you want to understand what’s actually happening under the hood.
- You communicate well in writing. Slack messages, PRs, design docs, incident notes — clarity is a superpower.
