MailerMen is hiring an Azure Data Platform / PostgreSQL DBA Engineer to own the target platform and the data migration for a programme moving an Oracle database to PostgreSQL on Azure. The target is Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server, a managed service in which Microsoft runs, patches and backs up the PostgreSQL engine while you own sizing, configuration and the data itself. You will provision that platform with zone-redundant high availability, which keeps a standby copy of the database in a separate availability zone of the same region so that the loss of one zone does not take the database down.
The migration itself runs through Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), Microsoft's managed service for moving databases into Azure. This is a big-bang migration, meaning the source is taken offline and the entire dataset is moved in one planned window rather than being replicated continuously over days. Work on the source side calls for working Oracle knowledge, because Oracle schemas and data types have to be mapped to their PostgreSQL equivalents before anything moves. Once the load completes you will prove the result through validation: row counts per table, large objects (LOBs, the binary and long text values Oracle stores outside the row) and sequences, which must resume at the correct next value so that new records do not collide with migrated ones.
You will also wire the platform to the applications that use it. Those applications run on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure's managed Kubernetes platform, so connectivity work covers ConfigMaps and Secrets, Kustomize for environment-specific configuration, and rolling redeploys that pick up new settings without downtime. Database credentials come from Azure Key Vault, delivered into AKS through the Secret Store CSI driver or synced secrets rather than being held in the cluster by hand. Networking is private throughout, using virtual network integration, private endpoints that keep traffic off the public internet and private DNS so that services resolve to their internal addresses. Finally, you will author and drive the production cutover runbook, the ordered checklist of steps for the switchover itself, and the rollback plan that returns the business to Oracle if the cutover has to be abandoned. Schema version control with Flyway or Liquibase and infrastructure as code with Bicep or Terraform are strongly desired, and the infrastructure work here is greenfield.
This is a contract role, worked remotely from anywhere in India. Compensation is ₹1,20,000 – ₹1,70,000 per month plus GST. The role is a night shift, worked from 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM IST. Responsibilities

- Size compute SKUs and IOPS and configure backups, retention and maintenance windows for the managed database.
- Plan and run the offline, big-bang migration using Azure Database Migration Service.
- Map Oracle schemas and data types to their PostgreSQL equivalents ahead of the migration.
- Validate migrated data through row count, large object and sequence checks before sign off.
- Wire connectivity between AKS workloads and the PostgreSQL service using ConfigMaps, Secrets, Kustomize and rolling redeploys.
- Integrate Azure Key Vault with AKS so that applications receive database credentials through the Secret Store CSI driver or synced secrets.
- Configure Azure networking for the platform, including virtual network integration, private endpoints and private DNS.
- Author and drive the production cutover runbook and the rollback plan.
- Manage schema changes with a database migration tool such as Flyway or Liquibase.
- Build the platform through infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform.
Requirements
- 6–11 years of database engineering experience, with strong PostgreSQL administration.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server, including high availability, SKU and IOPS sizing, backups and maintenance windows.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Proven delivery of at least one offline or big-bang database migration, with an Oracle source preferred.
- Experience validating migrated data through row count, LOB and sequence checks.
- Working Oracle knowledge, particularly schema and data type mapping to PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with AKS, including ConfigMaps, Secrets, Kustomize and rolling redeploys.
- Working knowledge of Azure networking, including virtual network integration, private endpoints and private DNS.
- Experience integrating Azure Key Vault with AKS using the Secret Store CSI driver or synced secrets.
- Experience authoring cutover runbooks and rollback plans is strongly desired.
- Familiarity with schema migration tools such as Flyway or Liquibase is strongly desired.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform is strongly desired.
