Job Title: Azure Architect
Role Overview
The Azure Architect will play a strategic and hands-on role in assessing the existing Azure landscape, defining cloud strategy, and driving implementation aligned with Microsoft’s Well-Architected Framework (WAF) and Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF). This role requires a balance of architecture, governance, and execution, working closely with cross functional teams to enhance cloud maturity, security, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Strategy & Architecture
Assess current Azure footprint and define target architecture aligned with WAF and CAF principles
Develop detailed recommendations and roadmap for cloud optimization, scalability, and resilience
Design and review Azure Landing Zones following best practices (CAF Enterprise-Scale)
Define architecture for high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region deployments
- Cloud Adoption & Migration
Lead cloud migration and modernization initiatives (rehost, replatform, refactor)
Conduct Strategic Migration Assessment and Readiness Tool (SMART) evaluations
Use Cloud Adoption Strategy Evaluator to define business case and adoption roadmap
Assess application portfolios and define migration waves and dependencies
- Identity, Governance & Compliance
Perform Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra ID) assessments for IAM, RBAC, and governance
Implement Governance Frameworks Using
- Azure Policy
- Management Groups
- Blueprints / Landing Zone Accelerators
Define and enforce naming conventions, tagging strategies, and cost governance
Conduct Cloud Governance Benchmark assessments aligned with CAF
- Security & Risk Management
Align environments with Azure Security Benchmark (ASB) and industry standards (CIS, NIST)
Leverage Microsoft Defender for Cloud for CSPM and CWPP
Implement And Review
- Network security (NSGs, Azure Firewall, Private Endpoints)
- Identity protection and Zero Trust architecture
- Data protection (Key Vault, encryption, backup strategies)
- Azure Platform & Services Expertise
Strong Experience Across Core Azure Services, Including
Compute: Azure Virtual Machines, VM Scale Sets
Networking: VNet, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, Load Balancer, Application Gateway, Azure Front Door
Storage & Data: Azure Storage Accounts, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory
Integration: Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Event Grid, Service Bus
Monitoring & Operations: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights
Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using ARM Templates, Bicep, Terraform
Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions
Enable automation for provisioning, monitoring, and remediation
- Backlog Management & Execution
Translate assessment findings into actionable backlog items
Work with engineering teams to prioritize items during sprint ceremonies
Drive closure of issues, bugs, and enhancements through sprint execution
Continuously refine backlog based on evolving architecture and business needs
- Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with business, application, and infrastructure teams
Act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders
Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in Azure architecture roles
Strong understanding of WAF and CAF frameworks
Hands-on experience with Azure Landing Zones and enterprise-scale architecture
Deep expertise in cloud security, governance, and networking
Experience with cloud migration and modernization strategies
Strong knowledge of DevOps practices and automation
Preferred Certifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
