Your Impact Join our TASER Data Science Team, a small and agile group within the TASER Pillar at Axon. We move fast, build prototypes, and set high standards for coding and collaboration. Our analyses not only guide critical business decisions at the highest levels—the CEO regularly attends our presentations—but also become user-facing features in products like TREND. We present our findings to customers, at academic conferences, and major Axon events. Our insights shape the roadmaps for Axon Training, future products, and the Moonshot initiative. As a Senior Data Scientist I, you'll need to convert business problems into quantitative analyses. You'll lead our modeling and analysis efforts, transforming complex datasets into actionable insights that drive data-driven decision-making at Axon and law enforcement agencies. You'll guide junior team members, contribute significantly to our mission of improving public safety, and be a key player on a team that directly influences the company's strategic direction. What You’ll Do Location: Work from home as much as you want, live nearby any of our awesome US R&D Hubs (Seattle, Scottsdale, Atlanta, or Boston) so you can easily collab in-person when it’s helpful and be an active part of our vibrant Axon culture Reports to: Director of Taser Data Science Convert business problems into quantitative analyses by exercising sound judgment and provide actionable insights to drive high-level decision-making processes. Develop and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms, including Bayesian networks and neural networks. Analyze datasets such as TASER deployment data, automated device logs, Use of Force reports, and public crime data. Mentor and train junior team members, fostering their professional growth; lead by example by promoting best practices in coding, tool development, and data analysis. Utilize expertise in mathematical modeling and advanced statistical analysis; apply knowledge of scaling and parallelizing work to handle large datasets efficiently. Develop tools and frameworks to streamline data science workflows, some of which may become user-facing features. Work closely with leadership to identify priorities and set technical direction; communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders effectively. Present analyses to executives, customers, and at industry events. Apply natural language processing techniques and write complex regex expressions as needed. Manage your work autonomously, staying organized and proactive in reaching out for help and collaborating with others. What You Bring Ph.D. in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field with 3-5 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 5-8 years of relevant experience. Candidates with non technical educational backgrounds but who possess exceptional technical skills are also encouraged to apply. Extensive experience in data modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning; proven track record of leading data science projects from conception to completion; experience mentoring or leading a team of data professionals. Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with functional programming and distributed data analysis tools like Spark is a plus; strong understanding of mathematical modeling, including Bayesian networks and neural networks; expertise in time series analysis and advanced statistical methods; familiarity with scaling techniques and parallel computing; ability to write clean, efficient code and build reusable tools. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities; strong leadership and mentorship skills; clear and effective communication style; ability to manage your own projects and deadlines; willingness to help others and collaborate effectively.
