Role Description
We are looking for a hands-on AWS Cost Optimization Specialist who goes beyond generic FinOps advice. The ideal candidate will deeply understand our infrastructure and business context, identify high-impact cost optimization opportunities, and independently design and implement improvements across teams with minimal guidance.
This role requires strong technical expertise in AWS environments, with the ability to analyze cloud spending, implement infrastructure and configuration changes, and work closely with engineering teams to drive adoption of cost optimization strategies.
What Makes This Role Unique
• Own the full lifecycle of cost optimization including analysis, prioritization, implementation, and adoption
• Implement infrastructure, configuration, and architecture-level cost improvements
• Work independently with minimal oversight while coordinating across engineering teams
• Leadership involvement will focus on strategic alignment while you drive execution
Technical Environment
• Serverless architecture including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Step Functions
• Data platforms including RDS Aurora, DynamoDB, S3 data lakes, Redshift, and EMR or Databricks
• Container workloads using ECS Fargate and EKS clusters
• Compute-intensive ML workloads using AnyScale
• Multi-region deployments with complex cost allocation structures
• Infrastructure defined using TypeScript and AWS CDK
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct deep technical analysis of AWS spend across services and accounts
• Implement hands-on cost optimization including modifying CDK constructs, optimizing Lambda functions, and configuring Reserved Instances or Savings Plans
• Develop cost optimization tools using TypeScript and internal infrastructure frameworks
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to implement and adopt optimization strategies
• Optimize ML workloads on AnyScale and support migration from CloudWatch to New Relic for observability
Required Skills
• 7+ years of AWS experience with a proven track record of delivering significant annual cost savings
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Node.js, or Python
• Deep expertise in RDS Aurora optimization, serverless cost patterns, and container rightsizing
• Strong understanding of AWS infrastructure, cloud architecture, and cost optimization techniques
• Ability to work independently and influence engineering teams without direct authority
• Experience with observability platforms and database performance optimization
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with enterprise cloud cost platforms such as North Cloud, Mission Cloud, or similar tools
• Background working in logistics, delivery, or transportation technology environments
• Experience optimizing machine learning infrastructure costs
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification
