Position Summary:
The AVP, MGCC Asia Technology – Japan is the senior technology leader accountable for delivery, modernization, quality outcomes, and financial governance for Japan’s Core Insurance Systems (CIS) delivered from MGCC, India. In addition, the role owns the QA / Quality Engineering transformation for all Japan technology deliverables, leveraging automation and AI to improve speed, stability, and production quality.
CIS includes policy administration, agent commission systems, and corporate systems, predominantly built on mainframe and legacy platforms. A core expectation of this role is to bring strong mainframe and policy administration modernization experience, and to drive this transformation in close partnership with Japan technology leaders.
Scope & Business Impact:
- Owns Japan Core Insurance Systems, including policy administration, agent commissions, and corporate systems
- Accountable for modernization of mainframe and legacy platforms supporting Japan
- Leads delivery, quality, and financial outcomes across all Japan technology portfolios from India
- Drives enterprise QA automation and AI‑enabled quality transformation
- Ensures cost transparency, budget discipline, and value realization
- Enables faster change, improved stability, and regulatory resilience
Key Responsibilities:
Core Insurance Systems, Mainframe & Legacy Modernization
- Provide end‑to‑end technology leadership for Japan Core Insurance Systems, including policy administration, commission systems, and corporate systems
- Own delivery, operational stability, security, and financial governance
- Define and execute mainframe and legacy modernization roadmaps in partnership with Japan technology leadership
- Drive platform evolution through decoupling, API enablement, data modernization, and tooling modernization
- Balance modernization initiatives with business continuity, operational risk, and regulatory requirements.
Quality Engineering & QA Transformation
- Own QA and Quality Engineering strategy for all Japan technology deliverables
- Transition from manual, phase‑based testing to AI and automation‑first, continuous quality engineering
- Leverage AI and intelligent automation to improve regression efficiency, defect prediction, and test coverage
- Embed automated testing into Agile and CI/CD pipelines as standard engineering practice
- Establish common QA platforms, metrics, and governance across Japan portfolios
Budget & Financial Management
- Own and manage technology budgets for Japan platforms delivered from MGCC, India
- Drive financial planning, forecasting, and cost optimization across run and change portfolios
- Ensure transparency of spend, vendor costs, and modernization investments
- Partner with Finance and Japan leadership to align technology spend with business outcomes and value realization
Vendor & Partner Management
- Govern strategic vendors supporting mainframe, modernization, and QA capabilities
- Ensure vendors align to modernization‑ and automation‑led delivery models
- Drive outcome‑based delivery, cost optimization, and capability uplift
Talent & Capability Building
- Build strong capabilities across mainframe engineering, legacy modernization, QA automation, and AI‑enabled testing
- Upskill teams from legacy and manual testing models to modern engineering roles
- Develop leadership depth and succession for critical Japan platforms
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- 15+ years of technology leadership experience, preferably in insurance or financial services
- Deep experience with Core Insurance Systems, including policy administration, agent commissions, and corporate systems
- Proven track record leading mainframe and legacy modernization initiatives
- Experience with cloud platforms and cloud‑aligned modernization approaches
- Demonstrated experience driving enterprise‑scale QA / Quality Engineering transformations
- Strong experience managing large technology budgets and financial governance
- Experience working with Japan or cross‑border Asia stakeholders
