Role Summary
Responsible for the design and development of automotive cockpit systems or door trims or door structures (BIW/closures) or and instrument panel (IP) components. The role involves ensuring design feasibility, safety, manufacturability, and seamless integration within the vehicle architecture using CATIA V5 / Siemens NX.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cockpit & Instrument Panel
- Design and develop:
- Dashboard / cockpit structures
- Instrument panel (IP), glove box, air vents, cluster housing
- Integrate systems such as:
- Airbags, HVAC, infotainment, wiring harness
- Ensure ergonomic, aesthetic, and safety compliance
- Develop Class B & C surfaces from Class A input
2. Door Panel (Trim)
- Design interior door trim components:
- Armrest, grab handle, map pockets, bezels
- Apply plastic design principles:
- Ribs, bosses, clips, snap fits
- Ensure tooling feasibility (injection molding, draft analysis)
- Coordinate with styling and supplier teams
3. Doors (BIW & Closures)
- Design and develop:
- Door inner & outer panels
- Reinforcements, hinge and latch areas
- Perform sheet metal design and assembly
- Ensure:
- Crash safety requirements
- Sealing and water management
- Gap & flush targets
- Support door kinematics and mechanism integration
Responsibilities
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CATIA V5 / Siemens NX
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T application
- Conduct DFMEA and support design validation (DVP&R)
- Ensure manufacturability:
- Injection molding, stamping, welding, assembly processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams:
- CAE, Styling, Electrical, Manufacturing, Suppliers
- Support prototype builds, testing, and production launch
- Maintain BOM and support PLM tools (Teamcenter / Enovia)
Required Skills
- Experience in one or more areas:
- Cockpit / Instrument Panel
- Door panel (interior trims)
- Doors (BIW / closures)
- Strong proficiency in CATIA V5 or Siemens NX
- Knowledge of:
- Plastic and sheet metal design
- Automotive manufacturing processes
- GD&T and tolerance analysis
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to OEM design standards and regulations
- Knowledge of crash, NVH, and ergonomic considerations
- Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R processes
- Familiarity with PLM tools (Teamcenter / Enovia)
