Job Summary
Synechron is seeking a skilled Automation Engineer with expertise in test automation frameworks to enhance quality assurance processes. This role is essential in designing, developing, and maintaining automation scripts to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions. The Automation Engineer will collaborate with development and QA teams to execute functional, regression, API, and database testing, contributing to the organization’s continuous improvement and delivery excellence.
Software Requirements
Required Software Proficiency:
- Selenium WebDriver (latest stable version) — strong experience in automating web applications
- TestNG (latest version) — proficiency in test configuration and scripting
- Maven (latest version) — experience in build automation and dependency management
- Jenkins — hands-on experience in creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for test automation
- JIRA — familiarity in managing test cases, defect tracking, and reporting
- Java (version 8+) — solid programming skills for developing automation scripts Preferred Software Skills:
- API testing tools (Postman, RestAssured, or soapUI) — experience in automating API validation
- Database testing (SQL, Oracle, MySQL) — skills in writing queries for data validation
- Test management tools (TestRail, Zephyr) — familiarity for test planning and reporting
Overall Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts for various applications and components
- Perform functional, regression, API, and database testing to ensure system quality and stability
- Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate with developers to resolve issues promptly
- Review test cases, provide feedback for test improvement, and ensure comprehensive test coverage
- Collaborate in Agile teams during sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Continuously evaluate emerging automation tools and techniques to enhance testing efficiency
- Develop and maintain testing documentation, including test plans, scripts, and defect reports
- Support a culture of quality and automation best practices across the delivery lifecycle
Technical Skills (By Category)
- Programming Languages:
- Essential: Java (version 8+), familiar with scripting for automation
- Preferred: Python or other scripting languages for automation tasks
- Databases/Data Management:
- SQL (MySQL, Oracle, or equivalent) — proficiency in writing queries for data validation
- Cloud Technologies:
- Not mandatory but advantageous: Knowledge of testing cloud-based applications and services on Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Frameworks and Libraries:
- Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, RestAssured — strong background in web and API automation frameworks
- Development Tools and Methodologies:
- Maven, Jenkins, JIRA, Agile/Scrum — experience managing automation projects within Agile teams
- Security Protocols:
- Awareness of data security principles relevant to testing environments
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience in automation testing and quality assurance
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining test automation scripts for web, API, and database testing
- Prior experience working with Selenium, TestNG, Maven, Jenkins, and JIRA in a collaborative environment
- Demonstrated success in executing automated testing within Agile/Scrum development cycles
- Experience with API and database testing is required
- Alternative pathways include extensive manual testing experience complemented with automation skills development
Day-to-Day Activities
- Write, compile, and maintain automation scripts for web, API, and database testing
- Execute automated test cases, review results, and log defects accordingly
- Troubleshoot and debug automation scripts to ensure reliability and efficiency
- Collaborate with developers to understand features and testing requirements
- Participate actively in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Review test cases and automation coverage, recommending improvements for continuous testing enhancement
- Maintain detailed testing documentation, including test scripts, defect reports, and test metrics
- Stay updated on emerging automation tools, frameworks, and best practices to elevate testing standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent
- Relevant certifications such as ISTQB, Selenium Certification, or relevant automation certifications are preferred
- Proven track record of implementing automation solutions in a software development environment
