An AutoCAD Draftsman for a steel plant translates structural engineers' concepts into precise technical drawings. Key responsibilities include creating General Arrangement (GA) drawings, steel fabrication layouts, shop drawings, and managing bills of materials (BOM). This role requires high precision to ensure accurate installation and fabrication.
Core Responsibilities
- General Arrangement (GA) Drawings: Create detailed plan, elevation, and section views of industrial steel structures, including mill buildings, equipment supports, pipe racks, and platforms.
- Fabrication & Shop Drawings: Develop exact, buildable component drawings indicating welding types, bolt placements, and material specifications for heavy steel.
- Design Coordination: Work closely with structural and mechanical engineers to resolve structural clashes and incorporate client or site modifications into existing drawings.
- Drafting & Standards: Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings using software like AutoCAD. Ensure all detailing complies with international standards.
- Material Estimation: Generate Material Take-Offs (MTO) and update the Bill of Materials (BOM) alongside revisions.
- Drawing Management: Maintain revision control, organize drawing registers, and ensure proper backup of project files.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Software: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D. Familiarity with Tekla Structures or Advance Steel is a major asset.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy industrial steel fabrication, welding processes, and structural steel connections.
- Education: Diploma or ITI in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 2+ to 8+ years of experience in structural drafting or heavy fabrication, specifically within industrial, power, or steel manufacturing sectors.
