About the role

The Role


The ASD Cadetship Program is for current university students who are studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. You must have a minimum of 12 months study remaining at the time of commencing the Program to be eligible.


You will work in a team with ASD mentors, coaches, supervisors and peers to support you as you work on a range of projects contributing to Australia’s national security. You will undertake training to improve your skills and get real-world experience in a unique environment. Putting your studies and skills into practice in a way that university cannot provide.


Cadets work on a part-time basis, working for a minimum of 2 days a week, while completing university study. You will receive an academic reimbursement of up to $800 per subject (capped at eight subjects per year), which is paid at the end of each semester upon successful completion of subjects.


Upon completion of the ASD Cadetship Program, you will be progressed into an ongoing full-time ASD4 position.


Positions within the ASD 2026 Cadetship Program will be located in all of our offices and you are able to nominate your preferred working location as Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, or Perth as part of the application process. Each location has a different number of roles available based on business need and available positions. The majority of positions are located in Canberra. If opportunities are not available in the location you preference, you will be contacted about opportunities available in other areas.

All successful candidates commence their cadetship on a salary of $68,541 plus a 4% service allowance and 15.4% superannuation. On successful completion, Cadets advance to the ASD4 level.
