Job Description

Position Strategic Purpose

The main purpose of the Senior Financial Calculation Specialist role is to provide expert support to case workers and ombudsmen with respect to financial calculations specifically within the Investments and Advice and Banking sector. This role enhances the quality of service delivered within AFCA by ensuring accurate and fair financial assessments and advice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Financial Calculations: Provide accurate and timely financial calculations related to investment portfolios, including loss assessments, break costs, interest and valuation of actual and notional portfolios.
  • Industry Advice: Offer specialist advice on industry practices and standards within the Investments and Advice, mortgage and lending sector to case workers and ombudsmen.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clarity and understanding of financial calculations and industry practices.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the development and enhancement of AFCA’s processes to ensure consistent, transparent, and fair decision-making.
  • Learning and Development: Provide ongoing training and support to AFCA staff on financial calculations and industry practices within the Investments and Advice and/or banking sector.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards, ensuring compliance in all financial calculations and advice provided.
  • Service Delivery: Support the delivery of an accessible, responsive, and robust complaint resolution service by working closely with AFCA teams and managers.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Financial Expertise: Proven experience in financial calculations and analysis within the Investments and Advice sector, with a strong understanding of industry practices and standards. Experience in advice remediation loss calculations in advice or banking sector
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance or actuarial studies not essential but highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear, concise advice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in contributing to process improvements and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training and support to staff, enhancing their understanding of financial calculations and industry practices.
