About the role

Job Description: Pega Software Developer

Location: Remote
Security Clearance: USDA Public Trust

AttainX is seeking a Pega Developer to support Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and authorized Development, Modernization, and Enhancement (DM&E) activities for Pega-based applications within the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) IT ecosystem. This role focuses on stabilizing, maintaining, and improving Pega implementations while collaborating with cross-functional teams working in .NET, SQL Server, and AWS environments.

The NRCS Pega environment includes applications where business logic is partially externalized into .NET services and SQL Server stored procedures. A key aspect of this role is refactoring these implementations toward Pega best practices while supporting the broader team’s modernization and cloud migration objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Must have experience supporting USDA, NRCS, or other federal geospatial programs.
  • Senior-Level: Minimum 7 years of IT experience, including 5+ years of advanced Pega architecture and development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Pega Platform, including case management, workflows, UI configuration, data pages, decision rules, SLA configurations, and class structure design across Work, Data, and Integration layers.
  • Experience with Pega integrations (REST, SOAP, RDBMS connectors) and working familiarity with SQL Server and .NET-based systems to support cross-platform integrations, refactoring, and collaboration with development teams.
  • Experience deploying Pega applications in AWS or hybrid cloud environments, with an understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts and integration with tools such as AWS CodeBuild, CodePipeline, and Jenkins.
  • Pega CSA or CSSA certification, with demonstrated knowledge of NRCS financial systems, including workflows, data flows, integrations, and dependencies across FPAC, USDA enterprise systems, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Pega Constellation UI architecture and component-based design.
  • Familiarity with Pega guardrail compliance and application quality scoring.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate certification.
  • Experience working within large-scale O&M contracts with active cloud migration.
  • SAFe, Scrum, or equivalent Agile certification.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements as applied to Pega UI components.
  • Experience with Pega Application Management Services (AMS), including incident management and root cause analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Pega case management workflows, UI components, and business process automation in alignment with Pega guardrails and best practices.
  • Perform corrective, adaptive, preventive, and perfective maintenance on Pega applications, including defect triage, root cause analysis, regression testing, and resolution within SLA timelines.
  • Refactor and optimize Pega implementations to improve separation of concerns, including reducing reliance on externalized business logic in .NET services and SQL stored procedures.
  • Develop and maintain reusable components at the Framework and Organization levels to improve consistency, scalability, and reduce maintenance overhead.
  • Monitor and optimize application performance using Pega diagnostic tools (e.g., PAL, PLA, Tracer, SMA).
  • Participate in modernization efforts, including application assessments for refactoring, re-platforming, or retirement, and contribute to architectural planning and technical debt analysis.
  • Support migration of Pega applications from on-premises environments to AWS, including deployment, configuration, and issue resolution in coordination with platform teams.
  • Identify, document, and support integration points and dependencies between Pega applications and enterprise/shared services to enable decoupling and modernization
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (.NET, database, platform, and release management) to resolve system issues and support CI/CD pipelines with automated quality and security gates.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), stakeholder validation, and knowledge transfer activities, including development of runbooks, playbooks, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with FPAC security standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and audit readiness, including timely remediation of vulnerabilities within established SLAs.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Remote work is approved. Contractor personnel must have access to the internet and Government network and be available to federal PMs, COs, CORs, and TPOCs during core hours (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM EST).
  • Normal duty hours are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
  • After-hours and weekend work may be required to support production releases.
  • Travel within fifty (50) miles of the Contractor’s facilities may be required with COR approval.

Security Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a USDA security background investigation (FBI fingerprint check and eQIP).
  • Must comply with all NIST, USDA, and HSPD–12 security training and reporting requirements.
  • Must complete mandatory training: Information Security Awareness (annually) and Section 508 (within 45 days of assignment).
