Position Summary

The CNA Restorative Aide supports residents in a skilled nursing and long-term care environment by delivering restorative nursing interventions designed to maintain or improve functional abilities, mobility, and independence. Working under the direction of licensed nursing staff and in coordination with rehabilitation services, the restorative aide focuses on preventing decline and enhancing resident quality of life.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement restorative nursing programs according to resident care plans, therapy recommendations, and facility protocols
  • Assist residents with restorative activities, including:
    • Range of motion exercises (active and passive)
    • Ambulation, gait training, and transfer practice
    • Positioning, splinting, and contracture prevention
    • Assistance with use of walkers, wheelchairs, and adaptive devices
  • Encourage resident participation while promoting independence and dignity
  • Observe residents for changes in physical or cognitive condition during restorative activities and promptly report concerns to nursing staff
  • Accurately document restorative interventions, resident tolerance, and progress per CMS and facility requirements
  • Collaborate with nursing, therapy, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain a safe environment by following infection control, fall prevention, and proper body mechanics guidelines
  • Assist with routine CNA responsibilities, including activities of daily living (ADLs), as needed
  • Uphold resident rights and comply with state regulations, CMS guidelines, and facility policies

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing (state-required)
  • Prior experience or formal training as a restorative aide preferred
  • Experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment preferred
  • Understanding of restorative nursing principles and basic anatomy
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
  • Compassionate, reliable, and team-oriented

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull for extended periods
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for resident care and documentation
