Job Description – Mw Messaging Infrastructure Engineer

Role Summary
The Associate Professional Middleware Messaging Infrastructure Engineer specializing in Kafka manages and optimizes enterprise-grade Apache Kafka deployments. This role takes ownership of messaging infrastructure operations with a focus on reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage Kafka clusters across development, staging, and production environments
- Design topic schemas, partition strategies, and consumer group configurations
- Monitor consumer lag, broker health, and cluster performance using observability tools
- Lead incident management for Kafka-related outages, degraded performance, and data loss events
- Drive automation of Kafka operations using Terraform, Ansible, or custom scripts
- Collaborate with data engineering and application teams for Kafka use case onboarding
- Evaluate and implement Kafka upgrades, patches, and configuration changes
- Define and enforce Kafka operational standards and best practices
Required Skills & Experience
- 7-10 years of middleware/infrastructure experience with strong Kafka focus
- Expertise in Apache Kafka cluster management, tuning, and disaster recovery
- Hands-on experience with Kafka Connect ecosystem and connectors (JDBC, S3, Elasticsearch)
- Strong scripting skills in Python and Shell
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
- Knowledge of monitoring platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
- Understanding of network and security principles for distributed messaging systems
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with multi-region Kafka replication (MirrorMaker 2, Confluent Replicator)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes-based Kafka deployments
- Knowledge of data governance and GDPR compliance in event streaming
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
- Confluent Certified Administrator or equivalent certification preferred
