Job details:
We're hiring one person with two traits: insatiable curiosity, and a violent bias for action.
You'll help everyday entrepreneurs win a share of the $700B US government contracting market.
ABOUT GOVPRENEURS
We're on a mission to democratize access to the $700B+ US government contracting market — empowering everyday entrepreneurs, from minority-owned startups to veteran-led firms, to win public contracts. Our users are guided by world-class mentors: veterans of the CIA, US Special Forces, and top federal agencies.
Now we're building the AI layer that scales that expertise:
- Hunter — our contract discovery agent
- Grant — our bid/no-bid analyst
- Ava — our proposal drafting agent that turns a decision to bid into a contract won
Two things worth knowing before you read further:
- $1M+ in annualised revenue. Reached within months of really investing in this product — and growing month over month.
- Fully bootstrapped. No VC, no outside capital. Every hire is funded by our own revenue, not by a clock ticking toward the next raise.
THE ROLE: CURIOSITY + VELOCITY
Two traits. Both non-negotiable.
1. Insatiable curiosity. Government contracting is a deep, strange, high-stakes domain that almost nobody understands. That's exactly why the opportunity is so large — and it means the most valuable thing you can do here is learn faster than anyone else in the market.
We are not looking for a GovCon expert. We're looking for someone who will become one.
Someone who wakes up asking "what can we do better?", forms a hypothesis, and goes and finds out — through customer calls, through the analytics, through competitive teardowns, through reading the primary sources nobody else bothers to read. Someone who brings new knowledge to the table every single day.
2. A violent bias for action. Curiosity without shipping is a hobby. We need someone who turns a question into an experiment in days, not sprints — who'd rather ship something imperfect and learn from the market than polish a doc nobody reads. Speed of execution is a first-class skill here, and we hire for it as hard as we hire for intellect.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
- Go deep. Become the expert. Read the primary sources, study how proposals are actually evaluated and won, mine our mentors' expertise, and turn it into product. Research isn't a phase you finish — it is the job.
- Move fast. Ship. Learn. Repeat. Idea → prototype → customer feedback → iterate should take days, not quarters. You'll be measured on how fast you get from a hypothesis to real-world evidence.
- Live in the data. PostHog is your home — funnels, retention, session replays, cohorts. A daily reflex, not a monthly ritual. Every decision you argue for is backed by a number, a customer quote, or research — not gut feel, and not seniority (including ours).
- Be obsessed with the customer. Protected hours every week talking to users, prepared with their actual behaviour in front of you. Dig past the surface request — the first answer is never the real one. Our customers aren't buying software; they're trying to win a contract that could change their business.
- Don't just spec it — build it. We build with Claude Code — you'll get a Claude Code Max account on day one and full licence to go build. Turn an idea into something clickable in hours. This whole team builds; if you love making things, you'll love it here.
- Use AI as a material, not a résumé line. What matters: great prompts, knowing where LLMs shine and fail, enough systems thinking to hold your own with engineers. What we're not asking: that you architect RAG pipelines. We have excellent AI engineers for that. A PM who can recite retrieval architectures but can't tell you why a customer churned is of no use to us.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Insatiable curiosity. You read the source document, not the summary. You cannot leave a "why" unanswered.
- Bias for action and high agency. You don't wait for permission. You have a track record of doing things nobody asked you to do.
- You've put something into the world. This matters enormously to us. Not a class project — something real, that strangers used, that got feedback. It's completely fine if it failed. We want to hear what you built and what you learned.
- Genuinely data-driven. You're at home in product analytics and instinctively reach for evidence before opinion.
- Customer obsession. You'd rather sit through ten messy customer calls than write one tidy spec in a vacuum.
- Design intuition and prompt craft. You know a bad screen when you see one, and you can prototype your way to a better one.
- Enough technical literacy to read API docs and hold a credible conversation with engineers.
YOU MIGHT BE COMING FROM…
We care about how you think and how fast you move, not what's on your CV. People who thrive here often come from:
- Founding a company — even (especially) one that didn't work out. You know what real ownership feels like and you've operated with no safety net.
- An early-stage product role — you've owned something end-to-end at a startup and shipped fast, with no process to hide behind.
- Building and launching AI projects — you've shipped something on the OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, put it in front of real users, and iterated on what came back. We want to hear the whole journey.
- Analytics or consulting — 1–3 years synthesizing mess into a clear POV, dropped into unfamiliar industries and expected to become credible fast. That last skill is this job.
- Nowhere in particular — you're early in your career and have taught yourself more, on your own initiative, than most people learn in a job.
You do not need prior product management experience. AI experience is a plus, not a requirement. Prior government contracting knowledge is not required at all — you'll build it here.
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF…
- You want a roadmap and a backlog handed to you.
- You think customer interviews are something the research team does.
- You're more excited by the technology than by the small business owner trying to win their first federal contract.
- Your instinct when blocked is to wait rather than to act.
THE DEAL — AND WHY NOW
- $1,000 per month, fixed in USD. Denominated in dollars and paid in INR directly to your Indian bank account, converted at the prevailing rate. Solid pay for this stage — and if the rupee weakens against the dollar, your take-home in rupees rises automatically. You carry no currency risk, we do.
- A full-time contract engagement. We're a deliberately lean, bootstrapped team, and this is how we're structured today. We say it plainly so there are no surprises.
- Formal compensation review at 6 months — tied to outcomes, not time served.
- The real reason to join is timing. We crossed $1M+ in annual revenue within months of truly investing in this product, with healthy month-over-month growth for two quarters straight. You'd join at the founding stage of a product we intend to scale into a multi-eight-figure business inside a year — as we take on a $700B market that's been closed to outsiders for decades. Get in now, and grow with it.
We're looking for someone who buys into the vision and wants to build the thing — not just fill a role. If you want real ownership, a co-founder on speed-dial, and a front-row seat while we disrupt a $700B industry, this is one of the best seats in Indian product right now.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
- Day 30: 15+ customer conversations. Fluent in PostHog. You can explain the GovCon journey better than most people who've worked in the industry a year. You've brought us at least one insight we didn't have — and shipped at least one thing.
- Day 60: You've found a real drop-off, formed a hypothesis, validated it with customers, and shipped a change against it.
- Day 90: You own a product surface end-to-end, and you're the person the team asks when they need to know how our users actually behave.
HOW TO APPLY
We don't hire on résumés. We want to see how you think, research, and move.
Email karthik@govpreneurs.com with your résumé and a short video (Loom, screen recording, or just your phone) answering the two questions below. We'd rather see you than read you — your energy and how you think out loud tell us more than any polished paragraph. Keep it under ~3 minutes; polish doesn't matter, being real does. This is what we actually watch.
- What have you built and put in front of real people? Tell us the journey — what you shipped, what the market told you, what you'd do differently. Failures are welcome here; we're interested in what you learned.
- Tell us about something you taught yourself in depth — because you wanted to, not because you had to. How far did you go, and what did you find?
Shortlisted candidates receive a take-home design challenge, followed by a live walkthrough and a founder conversation.
Write to me directly. I read every application.
