Job Description – Mw L1 Engineer
Technology / Tools:Middleware L1
Designation / Level:2 Associate Engineer
Experience Required:2-4 years
Role Summary
The Associate Middleware L1 Engineer provides first-line operational support for enterprise middleware platforms. This role monitors middleware systems, handles routine incidents, escalates issues appropriately, and ensures platform stability within defined SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor middleware platforms (messaging, API gateways, ETL, file transfer) using operations dashboards and alerting tools
- Perform first-level triage of middleware incidents including connectivity failures, message backlogs, and service outages
- Execute standard operating procedures for common middleware issues, restarts, and recovery tasks
- Log, track, and update incidents in ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Jira) with accurate impact and priority details
- Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams with proper documentation and diagnostics
- Perform scheduled health checks and routine maintenance tasks on middleware components
- Assist with environment refreshes, configuration deployments, and release support activities
- Maintain and update operational runbooks and knowledge base articles
Required Skills & Experience
- 2-4 years of experience in IT infrastructure or middleware operations
- Basic understanding of middleware platforms such as IBM MQ, Kafka, TIBCO, or DataPower
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix command-line operations and basic shell scripting
- Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, Nagios, Grafana) for platform health checks
- Knowledge of ITSM processes including incident management, change management, and problem management
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a 24x7 on-call rotation if required
- Eagerness to learn and grow in middleware engineering domain
GOOD TO HAVE
- Exposure to any enterprise middleware technology (IBM MQ, Kafka, TIBCO EMS, DataPower)
- Basic understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)
- Knowledge of ITIL v3/v4 framework
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- ITIL Foundation certification is an advantage
