Associate Director – Talent Management
Location: Gurgaon / Mumbai
Department: Talent Management
Role Type: Full-time
Backstage is a creator-first talent management company built to manage, grow, and monetise India’s next generation of top creators. We work closely with creators across categories, helping them build long-term careers through brand partnerships, content strategy, business opportunities, and structured talent management.
We are looking for an Associate Director – Talent Management who can lead a team of talent managers, build strong creator relationships, drive creator monetisation, and ensure best-in-class execution across creator operations.
Role Overview
The Associate Director – Talent Management will be responsible for leading a team of talent managers who manage Backstage’s roster of creators. This role requires a strong mix of people leadership, creator relationship management, commercial understanding, brand collaboration execution, and operational discipline.
The ideal candidate should be able to manage high-performing teams, build trust with creators, identify revenue opportunities, and ensure that every creator under the team receives structured, proactive, and high-quality management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of talent managers.
- Set clear monthly and quarterly goals for the team across creator growth, creator satisfaction, brand deals, and revenue.
- Review team performance regularly and identify gaps in execution, communication, and follow-ups.
- Build systems and processes to ensure talent managers are proactive, structured, and accountable.
2. Creator Relationship Management
- Oversee relationships with key creators managed by Backstage.
- Ensure creators receive consistent communication, timely updates, and strong strategic support.
- Step in for important creator conversations, escalations, renewals, and high-value opportunities.
- Help creators understand their commercial potential, positioning, and long-term growth roadmap.
3. Revenue & Brand Deal Growth
- Work closely with brand partnerships and internal teams to maximise revenue opportunities for creators.
- Identify monetisation opportunities across brand deals, long-term associations, IPs, events, affiliate models, and other creator-led opportunities.
- Ensure talent managers are actively pitching creators internally and externally for relevant campaigns.
- Track revenue performance for each creator and each talent manager.
4. Talent Strategy
- Build individual growth and monetisation plans for creators.
- Identify gaps in each creator’s positioning, content category, audience, pricing, and brand fit.
- Help the team improve creator packaging, media kits, commercials, and pitch narratives.
- Stay updated on creator economy trends, Instagram trends, brand spending patterns, and category-wise creator demand.
5. Operations & Execution
- Ensure timely execution of brand collaborations, creator commitments, approvals, deliverables, and payments.
- Maintain clear trackers for creator deals, pricing, campaign status, pending approvals, and collections.
- Work with finance, legal, brand management, and operations teams to ensure smooth execution.
- Reduce leakages, delays, miscommunication, and missed opportunities across the talent management function.
6. Creator Acquisition & Retention
- Support the onboarding of new creators into Backstage’s roster.
- Help evaluate creator fit based on content, category, growth potential, brand demand, and commercial viability.
- Ensure strong retention of existing creators through relationship quality, revenue growth, and consistent value creation.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience in talent management, influencer marketing, creator management, celebrity management, media, entertainment, or brand partnerships.
- Prior experience leading a team is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of creators, influencers, brand collaborations, social media platforms, and digital content.
- Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Strong commercial sense with the ability to identify and close monetisation opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple creators, campaigns, and internal stakeholders simultaneously.
- Strong process orientation and comfort with trackers, dashboards, and performance reviews.
- Ability to handle escalations, sensitive creator conversations, and high-pressure timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ideal Candidate
You are someone who understands both creators and business. You can build trust with talent, but you are also structured enough to run a high-performance team. You are not just reactive to brand briefs; you actively think about how to grow creator revenue, improve creator positioning, and unlock new opportunities.
You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where ownership, speed, and accountability matter.
What We Are Looking For
- Someone who can lead from the front.
- Someone who can build a strong team of talent managers.
- Someone who can manage creator relationships with maturity.
- Someone who understands brand deals, pricing, creator positioning, and revenue growth.
- Someone who can bring structure without slowing things down.
- Someone who treats creators as long-term partners, not just campaign inventory.
Why Join Backstage
- Work with some of India’s most exciting upcoming and established creators.
- Build a high-growth creator management vertical from the inside.
- Own meaningful responsibility across talent, revenue, team, and strategy.
- Be part of a modern, creator-first company operating at the intersection of content, culture, brands, and commerce.
