About The Role:
The Associate Director leads a team of 5–12 direct reports, including Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who serve as in-house handling editors for various journals. This role is central to ensuring high-quality editorial evaluation and peer review processes, from manuscript assignment to the final decision. The Associate Director also serves as a senior SME and experienced editor, acting as a point of escalation and contributing to strategic initiatives and cross-functional collaborations.
How You Will Make An Impact:
- Team Leadership & Development: Foster a motivating environment, coach team members, and build a high-performing editorial team to drive article output growth, enhance author experience, and support journal quality and retention.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Align CEET performance with Subject Team goals and collaborate with peers/colleagues/management within and beyond CEET to ensure operational and strategic alignment.
- Training & Mentorship: Coordinate and manage onboarding and training across the team, ensuring consistent editorial standards and driving operational excellence.
- Innovation & Systems Improvement: Personally handle submitted manuscripts to a final editorial decision to remain up to date with research trends and to contribute to editorial workflow enhancements.
What We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience as a handling editor with deep subject matter expertise in one of the Life Sciences (MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Strong team management skills, including performance reviews, coaching, and recruitment.
- Ability to analyze performance data, identify trends, and report risks or blockers.
- Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills across departments.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to align team goals with broader publishing objectives.
