About Inkle:
Inkle is a US tax & accounting software startup based in San Francisco and Bangalore. We exclusively serve US technology startups. We're on a mission to make accounting, tax and compliance easy, scalable, affordable and on-demand for US-registered companies - using software and human services. We are a team of passionate and creative individuals who believe in the power of technology to simplify complex processes. Inkle launched in 2022, and already serves well over 500 US companies, and we’re growing fast. We’re backed by leading global VC funds.
About the team and this role:
Inkle powers bookkeeping and compliance for hundreds of the most innovative US startups. We’re transforming how global companies manage their books — faster, more accurate, and fully investor-ready. As we scale, we’re building out our client services team to ensure every founder and CFO we work with has spotless books, on time, every month.
We’re looking for a
US Bookkeeper who can take
end-to-end ownership of client bookkeeping — from reconciliations and reporting to investor and board-level data prep. You’ll be working directly with US-based startup founders and finance leaders, ensuring their numbers are always reliable, audit-ready, and pitch-perfect.
Responsibilities:
- Bookkeeping & Reconciliation: Take complete ownership of monthly bookkeeping for US clients — categorizing transactions, reconciling bank/credit accounts, and ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Be client-facing: Communicate directly with US startup leaders to gather inputs, resolve queries, and deliver financial clarity.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and provide clear commentary on variances.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate books for tax and audit readiness.
- Process Ownership: Ensure all client books are closed on time every month — no delays, no exceptions.
- Proactive follow-ups: Keep clients accountable for providing documentation, receipts, and clarifications — no waiting to be asked.
Who we’re looking for:
- Extreme ownership & proactiveness: You’ll be responsible for clients’ financial books — you must be independent, organized, and reliable.
- Attention to detail: Accuracy is everything in bookkeeping. We need someone who sweats the small stuff.
- Numbers & financial comfort: You should be highly confident with financial statements, reconciliations, and accounting concepts.
- Software proficiency: Must be comfortable with QuickBooks Online, Xero (mandatory), Excel/Google Sheets, and a variety of SaaS tools.
- Communication skills: Strong written and verbal English; clear, concise communication with US founders and internal teams.
- Experience: 2–3 years of US bookkeeping/accounting experience, ideally with US-based B2B SaaS companies or startups.
- Location & Hours: Based in Bengaluru; Ability to work 3 pm to 12am - midnight (IST) in-office (work afternoons until late nights) to sync with US time zones.
- Bonus: Experience handling multi-entity bookkeeping, consolidations, and MIS reports is a plus.
Benefits that we’ll provide:
- Highly competitive salary: Inkle offers a competitive compensation package benchmarked to local norms in Bangalore and San Francisco.
- Stock option scheme - all Inkle employees receive generous stock options with very favourable terms.
- Health insurance - all Inkle employees are covered under Group Medical Insurance policy.
- Relocation allowance - Inkle provides a one-time expense allowance to cater for moving costs when you join the office in Bangalore.
- Inkle has a very generous leave policy. This includes 1 day of Period Leave per month for all female employees.
- Inkle employees are granted 10 work-from-home days (per year pro-rated). This is on top of their leave.
- A comfortable, fun and safe office environment in the heart of Bangalore with great transport links and eateries nearby.
- All employees receive Macbooks and external monitors as required.
