Job Summary
The Legal Associate will be responsible for supporting the Legal & Compliance team in handling consumer complaints, regulatory complaints, bankruptcy proof of claim filings, and other legal and compliance-related matters. The role requires strong legal research, drafting, documentation, coordination, and case-management skills. The candidate should be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple matters within defined timelines. The Legal Associate will play a key role in protecting the company's legal interests and fostering a culture of compliance and integrity. The Legal Associate will ensure compliance with federal and state consumer protection regulations as well as uphold all loan servicing policies and procedures while engaging in both job-specific and general training programs.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Review, track, and manage consumer complaints received through various forums, portals, notices, emails, regulators, government authorities, ombudsman offices, or statutory bodies.
• Coordinate internally to gather relevant facts, documents, transaction records, and approvals required for responses.
• Draft responses, replies, written statements and supporting documentation in coordination with internal stakeholders.
• Ensure responses are filed within prescribed timelines.
• Maintain case status trackers and ensure timely updates to the Legal & Compliance team.
• Assist in preparing case summaries and evidence files.
• Assist in preparing, reviewing, and filing bankruptcy proof of claim forms and related documents.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records for all bankruptcy-related matters.
• Conduct legal research on consumer laws, regulatory requirements, bankruptcy procedures, and other applicable laws.
• Support contract review, documentation, and other corporate legal tasks as needed.
• Work closely with business, customer service, finance, operations, risk, and compliance teams to resolve legal matters.
• Assist in identifying process gaps and recommending improvements to reduce legal and regulatory risk.
• Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized university.
• Additional qualifications or certification in compliance, consumer law, insolvency/bankruptcy law, or regulatory affairs will be an advantage.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, financial services company, fintech or similar organization.
• Fresh law graduates with strong internships in litigation, compliance, or corporate legal teams may also be considered.
