Asst Manager – Sourcing (Electrical)

JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE
Highly experienced Sourcing Engineer with over 10-12 years of experience in the electrical manufacturing industry, specializing in switchgear and electrical component sourcing. The candidate will lead strategic sourcing, supplier development, cost optimization, and procurement of critical electrical and electro-mechanical components to support LV/MV switchgear manufacturing and power distribution projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing – Switchgear & Electrical Components
- Develop sourcing strategies for:
- LV/MV Switchgear assemblies
- Electrical components and sub-assemblies
- Manage procurement of key components such as:
- ACB, MCCB, MCB
- Contactors, relays, overload relays
- CTs, PTs
- Protection relays & meters
- Control transformers, Inductors
- Terminal blocks & connectors
- Cable glands & lugs
- Wiring harnesses
- Sheet metal enclosures
- Insulators
- PLCs, HMI panels (if applicable)
- Power supplies & SMPS units
- Identify global and local sourcing opportunities.
- Establish long-term agreements with OEMs and authorized distributors.
2. Electrical Component Vendor Development
- Source and qualify suppliers for:
- Passive components (resistors, capacitors)
- Active components (sensors, modules, control boards)
- Electro-mechanical parts
- Conduct supplier audits and technical capability assessments.
- Evaluate compliance with IEC, UL, and ISO standards.
- Develop alternate vendors for critical electrical components.
3. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
- Lead cost reduction initiatives through:
- Value engineering of electrical assemblies
- Component standardization
- Localization strategies
- Should-costing analysis
- Track raw material price trends (Copper, Aluminum, CRCA steel).
- Benchmark pricing across suppliers and regions.
4. Technical Collaboration
- Collaborate with R&D and design teams to:
- Optimize BOM for cost and availability
- Standardize electrical components across product lines
- Support new product development (NPD)
- Approve alternate electrical components during shortages
- Interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
5. Supply Chain & Risk Management
- Mitigate supply risks for long-lead electrical components.
- Manage inventory levels and safety stock for critical parts.
- Support production planning to avoid line stoppages.
- Coordinate imports, customs, and logistics when required.
6. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure sourcing compliance with:
- IEC standards
- UL certification requirements
- RoHS and REACH regulations
- Maintain vendor documentation and contracts.
- Ensure traceability and quality documentation for electrical components.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in switchgear and electrical component procurement.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and technical specifications.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP).
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
