Civil Engineer Job Description
Position: Civil Engineer
Department: Engineering/Project Management
Reports To: Civil Engineer
Position Summary
The Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing construction of building structures for commercial, industrial, and residential developments. This role ensures projects meet technical specifications, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and client objectives while delivering cost-effective and sustainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Engineering
- Design site development plans
- Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, specifications, and technical calculations
- Conduct site feasibility studies and assess environmental impacts
Project Management and Coordination
- Manage multiple civil engineering projects from conceptual design through construction completion
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, landscape architects, and other design professionals
- Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and construction methods
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with plans and specifications
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and quality control measures
- Facilitate communication between clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Technical Analysis and Problem-Solving
- Evaluate existing infrastructure conditions and recommend rehabilitation strategies
- Analyze soil reports, topographic surveys, and subsurface investigation data
- Troubleshoot construction issues and provide timely technical solutions
- Assess structural integrity and recommend remediation for deficiencies
Regulatory Compliance and Permitting
- Ensure designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and building codes
- Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for regulatory approval
- Coordinate with municipal agencies, utilities, and other stakeholders
- Conduct zoning analysis and address land use requirements
- Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability standards
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, and feasibility analyses
- Maintain accurate project documentation including as-built drawings and records
- Document site observations, testing results, and quality assurance activities
- Develop operations and maintenance manuals for civil infrastructure
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
Experience
- 8-10 years of civil engineering experience in design and construction
- Experience with commercial site development and infrastructure projects preferred
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green infrastructure advantageous
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles and construction materials
- Knowledge of LEED, sustainable site development, and low-impact development (LID) techniques

- Travel to multiple project sites within assigned region
