Job Summary:
Chandigarh University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Physics at its Gharuan (Mohali) campus. We seek an enthusiastic teacher-researcher with a strong background in Quantum Physics, Energy Physics, and Semiconductor Physics. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, develop an active research program, supervise students, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in departmental and university service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate (BSc, BSc (Hons), BTech related courses) and postgraduate (MSc, MTech, integrated programs) courses in Physics, with emphasis on quantum mechanics, semiconductor physics, and energy physics topics.
- Design and update course materials, laboratory exercises, and assessments; integrate modern pedagogy and experiential learning.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate student projects, dissertations, and theses.
- Establish and maintain an active research program (theoretical, experimental, or computational) in one or more focus areas: quantum physics (quantum materials, quantum information, many-body physics), energy physics (renewable energy materials, energy conversion and storage, photovoltaics), and semiconductor physics (device physics, low-dimensional semiconductors, fabrication and characterization).
- Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Seek external research funding, collaborate with industry and interdisciplinary teams, and foster partnerships.
- Develop and manage laboratory facilities and equipment; ensure safety and compliance.
- Participate in departmental administration, curriculum development, accreditation processes, student recruitment, and mentoring.
- Contribute to outreach, continuing education programs, and professional development activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Ph.D. in Physics or closely related discipline with specialization in quantum physics, semiconductor physics, energy materials/physics, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated postdoctoral research experience or equivalent research experience is desirable.
- Evidence of quality publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to teach core and specialized physics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Good communication skills in English and capability to work collaboratively.
Desirable:
- Prior teaching experience at university/college level.
- Experience with experimental laboratory techniques (thin-film deposition, nanofabrication, optical/electrical characterization, cryogenics) or advanced computational methods (DFT, many-body simulations, device modeling).
- Experience in obtaining or participating in funded research projects.
- Familiarity with pedagogy tools (LMS, virtual labs, active learning strategies).
- Industry collaboration experience in semiconductors, photovoltaics, or energy storage sectors.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong subject-matter expertise in quantum mechanics, semiconductor device physics, and energy-related materials/technologies.
- Research planning, grant-writing, and project management skills.
- Laboratory management and safe-working-practices awareness.
- Student-centric teaching approach and mentoring ability.
- Proficiency in scientific programming (Python/MATLAB/Fortran), data analysis, and instrumentation control is an advantage.
- Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and research.
