Job Overview
The MIT School of Vedic Sciences is seeking a dynamic, scholarly, and visionary Assistant Professor of Psychology. The ideal candidate will possess a rigorous background in modern psychological science, coupled with a deep interest or experience in integrating Western psychological frameworks with Vedic/Indian Psychology (Bhāratīya Manovijñāna). This role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, conducting impactful research, and contributing to curriculum development that bridges ancient wisdom with contemporary science.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Pedagogy
- Deliver high-quality lectures to undergraduate (BA/BSc) and postgraduate (MA/MSc) students in core psychology subjects (e.g., Cognitive Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Research Methodology, Developmental Psychology).
- Design and deliver specialized modules integrating Indian Psychology concepts (such as Triguna, Pancha Kosha, Chitta, and consciousness studies) with mainstream psychological theories.
- Mentor and guide students in their academic progress, practical lab work, and field internships.
2. Research & Innovation
- Conduct independent research at the intersection of modern psychology and Vedic sciences, aiming for publications in Scopus, Web of Science, or UGC-CARE listed journals.
- Apply for external research grants and funding from bodies like ICSSR, DST, ICHR, or CPR.
- Supervise student dissertations and research projects.
3. Institutional & Administrative Contribution
- Contribute to curriculum design, syllabus revision, and the development of innovative teaching aids.
- Organize and participate in departmental seminars, national/international conferences, workshops, and faculty development programs (FDPs).
- Fulfill routine administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department/Director (e.g., exam invigilation, admissions counseling, accreditation documentation like NAAC/NIRF).
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field (e.g., Cognitive Science, Counseling Psychology, Behavioral Sciences) from a recognized and reputed University/Institute.
- A Master’s degree in Psychology with a minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade).
Experience & Skills
- Research Experience (Highly Preferred): * A strong track record of independent research with a proven publication history in Scopus, Web of Science, or UGC-CARE indexed journals.
- Experience in writing research proposals and a demonstrated ability to secure external research grants/funding (e.g., from ICSSR, DST, or international bodies) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R, AMOS, or NVivo).
- Niche Alignment: A keen interest, foundational knowledge, or prior research work in Indian Psychology, Yoga Psychology, Consciousness Studies, or Philosophy of Mind to help bridge ancient Vedic wisdom with modern scientific inquiry.
- Teaching: Prior teaching experience at the university level is an asset, along with the ability to mentor student dissertations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and academic writing skills.
