Position: Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics
Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies (AIGS) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics. This is a substantive academic role within higher education -- distinct from language training positions -- focused on teaching, analysis, and the principled study of language.
We are looking for intellectually engaged educators who can bridge linguistic theory and pedagogical practice, and contribute meaningfully to the academic development of undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
What You Will Do
- Teach credit-bearing courses in Applied Linguistics, ELT, and language studies
- Integrate linguistic theory with classroom practice in a rigorous academic framework
- Design syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with programme outcomes
- Assess Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing through analytical and academic lenses
- Provide detailed, constructive feedback on student performance
- Support students in academic writing, discourse competence, and language analysis
- Contribute to curriculum development and departmental academic activities
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure coherence across modules
Who Can Apply
- MA in Linguistics / Applied Linguistics / ELT
- PhD (completed or in progress) in a relevant field will be given preference
- Minimum 1 year of teaching experience in higher or adult education
- Teaching qualifications such as CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or TESOL (desirable)
