Role Description
The In-Charge – Hull / Steel Fabrication (Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager) will support and supervise steel renewal, fabrication, ship-righting, panelling, and hull repair activities for ship refit projects at SDHI's Ship Construction Site (SCS). This full-time, on-site role based in Pipavav involves executing assigned steel jobs safely, within the General Production Schedule, and in line with approved drawings, customer specifications, Classification Society requirements, and company QHSE/ISO standards. The role includes coordinating with fitters, welders, sub-contractors, Design, and QC teams, while supporting the Section Head in manpower planning, resource utilization, quality control, and production monitoring. The professional will guide junior team members, ensure efficient use of materials and man-hours, maintain quality and inspection records, and support safety compliance and reporting to the Section Head on work progress and execution challenges.
Qualifications
- Strong technical understanding of steel fabrication drawings and welding processes, including hull repair and renewal work.
- Experience executing and supervising steel fabrication, ship-righting, panelling, and hull repair activities in a shipyard environment.
- Ability to support production planning, manpower deployment, and job allocation against daily/weekly schedules.
- Knowledge of quality control practices, QAP requirements, and Classification Society/inspection standards in steel fabrication.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, Permit to Work systems, and safe practices for hot work, welding, gas cutting, and work at height.
- Working knowledge of SAP, ERP, MS Office, or similar systems for job tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Sound judgement, attention to detail, and strong coordination skills across shop-floor teams and cross-functional departments.
- Diploma or B.E. in Fabrication Technology, Mechanical, Production, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering, with 6–10 years of relevant shipyard experience.
