Job details:
1. JOB PURPOSE
To oversee the instrumentation and electrical maintenance functions of the plant, ensuring maximum uptime of production machinery, adherence to safety standards, and continuous improvement in operational efficiency. The role requires hands-on supervision of line operations, shift management, and strict compliance with quality and safety systems. The incumbent will play a key role in minimizing breakdowns, optimizing equipment performance, and driving a culture of preventive maintenance and operational excellence.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Instrumentation & Electrical Maintenance
- Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance: Plan, execute, and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for all electrical panels, motors, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, and process instrumentation. Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to product packaging machinery, including conveyors, filling machines, sealing equipment, capping units, labeling machines, and wrapping systems.
- Calibration: Ensure timely calibration of all critical instruments (temperature, pressure, flow, level sensors, etc.) to maintain process accuracy and comply with quality standards.
- Spare Parts Management: Track and monitor inventory of electrical and instrumentation spare parts; coordinate with procurement for timely replenishment to avoid stockouts.
- Upgrades & Modernization: Recommend and implement upgrades to obsolete or underperforming equipment to improve reliability and energy efficiency.
B. Production Line Supervision
- Line Operations: Supervise day-to-day production line operations, ensuring minimum downtime and optimal machine efficiency. Act as the first point of contact for all electrical/instrumentation issues during production shifts.
- Shift Manpower Management: Manage shift manpower, allocate duties, and monitor the performance of technicians and operators working under your supervision. Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance as needed.
- Cross-functional Coordination: Coordinate closely with production, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure seamless workflow and adherence to production targets.
C. Quality & Operational Excellence
- GMP Compliance: Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and maintain hygienic, safe, and clean working conditions on the shop floor.
- Kaizen & TPM Initiatives: Drive and actively participate in Kaizen (continuous improvement) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives to reduce waste, improve equipment effectiveness, and enhance overall plant performance.
- 5S Implementation: Implement and sustain 5S practices (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across electrical and instrumentation work areas.
- Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis for recurring breakdowns and implement robust RCA-CAPA (Root Cause Analysis – Corrective & Preventive Actions) to prevent recurrence.
- Lean Manufacturing: Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives to streamline processes and eliminate non-value-added activities.
D. Safety & Compliance
- Safety Protocols: Enforce all relevant safety practices, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), electrical safety, Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, and fire safety protocols.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure all electrical installations and maintenance activities comply with statutory regulations (e.g., Indian Electricity Rules, factory acts) and organizational safety standards.
- Safety Training: Conduct safety toolbox talks and training sessions for the team on electrical hazards, safe work practices, and emergency response procedures.
- Incident Reporting: Investigate and report any electrical accidents or near-misses; implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
E. Documentation & Reporting
- DMS (Daily Work Management): Maintain shift logs, breakdown reports, maintenance checklists, and other DMS documentation systematically.
- Performance Reporting: Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports covering:
- Equipment uptime and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
- Power consumption and energy efficiency trends
- Maintenance costs and budget adherence
- Breakdown frequency and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)
- Audit Readiness: Ensure all documentation is audit-ready for internal, regulatory, and customer audits.
3. QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Criteria
Requirement
Educational Qualification
B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (candidates with strong electrical/instrumentation exposure will be preferred)
Experience
3 to 8 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and electrical maintenance, preferably in Chemicals, FMCG, or related manufacturing industries
Technical Skills
Hands-on knowledge of packaging machinery, PLC-based systems, sensors, VFDs, control panels, and electrical drives
Soft Skills
Strong leadership, problem-solving, team management, and effective communication skills
4. DESIRABLE SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Hands-on experience with product packaging machinery (filling, capping, labeling, wrapping, sealing, etc.)
- Working knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, GMP, TPM, RCA-CAPA, DMS, and Lean Manufacturing (LM) methodologies.
- Ability to handle shift manpower and line supervision independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong exposure to industrial safety practices and statutory electrical regulations.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or similar maintenance software.
