- Role Overview The Assistant Manager – Accounts will own end-to-end accounting operations, statutory compliance, and team leadership. This individual will ensure the integrity of the company’s books, drive timely closures, and act as the primary liaison for direct tax and regulatory matters. - 1. Accounting & Financial Reporting • Oversee and review the Trial Balance on a periodic basis; ensure completeness, accuracy, and integrity of all books of accounts • Drive timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closure of accounts in coordination with the CFO • Maintain a robust Chart of Accounts and ensure proper classification of all transactions • Prepare MIS reports and financial summaries for senior management review
- 2. Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) Compliance • Manage end-to-end TDS process: computation, timely deduction, deposit, and filing of returns (Forms 24Q, 26Q, 27EQ, 27Q) within statutory timelines • Ensure accurate issuance of TDS certificates (Form 16 / 16A) to vendors and employees • Stay current with TDS rate revisions, threshold changes, and TRACES-related requirements • Resolve TDS mismatches and handle notices from the Income Tax Department relating to TDS defaults
- 3. Depreciation & Fixed Asset Management • Maintain and regularly update the Fixed Asset Register across all locations • Compute depreciation as per the Companies Act 2013 (Schedule II) as well as the Income Tax Act, 1961 • Manage capitalisation of assets, asset disposals, write-offs, and physical verification reconciliation • Coordinate with operations and procurement for timely addition of assets in the books
- 4. Income Tax – Scrutiny & Litigation Support • Prepare detailed and well-documented responses to Income Tax scrutiny notices under Sections 143(2), 147, and related provisions • Compile supporting schedules, ledger extracts, reconciliations, and annexures required for assessments • Coordinate closely with external tax consultants and legal counsel for notice responses, appellate proceedings, and hearings • Maintain a tracker of all pending litigation matters and ensure deadlines are never missed
- 5. Staff Loans & Perquisite Accounting • Compute interest on staff loans in accordance with company policy and SBI benchmark rates as prescribed under the Income Tax Act • Ensure accurate accounting of loan disbursements, repayments, interest accruals, and outstanding balances • Handle perquisite valuation and ensure correct disclosure in employee Form 16
- 6. Ledger Reconciliation & Accounts Hygiene • Supervise and review reconciliation of all key ledgers: vendor payables, customer receivables, bank accounts, inter-company accounts, and GST control accounts • Identify and resolve long-outstanding open items, duplicate entries, and mispostings • Implement a structured monthly reconciliation calendar for the team • Ensure audit-readiness of ledgers at all times
- 7. Team Management & Capacity Building • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 15 accounts professionals across sub-functions • Set KRAs, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs within the team • Ensure clear delegation, workload distribution, and accountability within the team • Build a succession pipeline and cross-train team members to reduce single-point dependencies
- Candidate Profile Qualifications • Inter CA / CMA strongly preferred • MBA in Finance from a reputed institution will be considered alongside semi-qualified candidates with exceptional experience • M.Com with 12+ years of relevant retail / consumer goods experience may be considered
- Experience • 8 to 10 years of post-qualification experience in core accounting and finance roles • Prior exposure to the retail, FMCG, or consumer goods sector is a strong advantage • Demonstrated experience in managing a team of 10 or more people • Hands-on experience dealing with Income Tax scrutiny notices is mandatory
- Technical Skills • Proficiency in Tally ERP 9 / TallyPrime; working knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP is a plus • Strong command over Indian direct tax provisions (TDS, Income Tax), GST fundamentals, and Companies Act 2013 • Working knowledge of IndAS / Schedule III financial statement requirements • Advanced Excel skills for MIS, reconciliation, and depreciation schedules
