A Y & J Solicitors is looking for an Assistant Legal Cashier to join our Finance team and support our legal cashiering and client account functions.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is organised and has a strong eye for detail. Accuracy is essential, particularly when dealing with client money, posting transactions and maintaining client ledgers.
You’ll work closely with the Finance Manager and colleagues across the firm to ensure payments, receipts, invoices and client account transactions are processed accurately and in line with our procedures.

Experience: Previous experience in accounts or legal cashiering would be an advantage
Salary: 8-10 LPA
Level: Executive
What you’ll be doing:
• Posting payments and receipts accurately to client and office ledgers and nominals
• Using Xero to record and maintain financial transactions
• Preparing bank payments after ensuring client ledgers have been checked and reconciled
• Raising client invoices and ensuring they are posted correctly in accordance with UK VAT requirements
• Assisting with the day-to-day administration of client accounts and legal cashiering
• Checking transactions and supporting documentation to ensure entries are accurate and properly authorised
• Maintaining clear and accurate financial records
• Working with the Finance Manager, fee earners and colleagues to resolve queries relating to payments, receipts, invoices and client accounts
• Following the firm’s procedures and relevant requirements relating to the handling of client money
What we’re looking for:
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Confidence working with numbers and financial information
• Experience using Xero, or the ability and willingness to learn quickly
• Good organisation and workload management skills
• A methodical approach to checking and processing financial transactions
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues across the firm
• An understanding of the importance of confidentiality when handling financial and client information
• Previous experience in legal cashiering or an accounts environment would be advantageous, but training will be provided for the right candidate
It would be great if you also have:
• Previous experience working with client accounts or client money
• Familiarity with UK accounting or VAT requirements
• Experience working in a professional services or legal environment
• An interest in developing your knowledge of legal cashiering and financial compliance
