An Operation Theatre (OT) Assistant is responsible for supporting the surgical team by ensuring that the operation theatre is properly prepared, sterile, and fully equipped for all procedures. The role involves assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgeries while maintaining strict infection control and patient safety standards. Key duties include preparing the OT before procedures, sterilizing instruments and equipment, arranging surgical supplies, and assisting in patient positioning on the operation table. The OT Assistant also helps in transferring patients to and from the theatre, monitors the availability and functioning of equipment, and promptly reports any issues. Additionally, the role requires proper handling and disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines, as well as maintaining records and inventory of surgical materials. Candidates are typically required to have a Diploma or Degree in Operation Theatre Technology or a related field, along with basic knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and aseptic protocols. The position demands strong teamwork, attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure environment, often in rotational shifts including emergencies.
