Primary Purpose:

The Research Associate (RA) I is responsible for providing collaborative support for projects undertaken by research, development and innovation teams at ARUP. The RA I position supports the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and execution of projects working closely with Scientists, Scientific Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers, and Technicians.

This position may specialize in functional areas, which would require additional specific skill and experience.

This position reports directly to the department Scientific Manager.

Essential Functions:

Assists in the planning, execution and implementation of projects with oversight from Scientist and Scientific Manager.

Actively collaborates as a member of multidisciplinary teams to meet deadlines and project milestones. 

Responsible for learning and implementing Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and corporate policies and processes that govern research and test development activities where applicable.

Operates select laboratory instruments and ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Performs minor troubleshooting and routine maintenance.

Keeps detailed records of experiments, analysis, and other laboratory activities in laboratory notebooks. 

Performs analytical processes in support of projects across a spectrum from simple to highly complex for which they are qualified, trained, and demonstrate competency.

Appropriately prioritizes projects and tasks and demonstrates effective skill in time management. 

Coordinates communications through Scientific Manager, Scientist, or Project Manager as warranted by project scope.

Resolves technical and scientific issues of limited scope related to research projects.

Ensures proper processes are followed and assists in establishing new processes as required.

Analyzes, organizes, and presents data and results in regular team meetings.

Participates in academic activities as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies. 

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
