Build the AI Workforce for Debt Settlement
The debt settlement industry runs on legacy CRMs and repetitive, soul-crushing work. We're replacing both with a modern system of record and a fleet of AI workers that handle the repetitive tasks end-to-end, so human agents can focus on the work that actually requires judgment and empathy.
We're not building a single AI agent. We're building a coordinated team of them.
The Role
We're hiring an AI Engineer to join us on-site in either SF or Bengaluru. You'll design, ship, and own the AI systems that power our agents, and you'll have unusual leverage over what we build and how. We're a lean team that ships fast. Expect to wear multiple hats and see your work in production within your first week.
What you'll do
- Build and fine-tune LLM-powered agents for real workflows: voice agents that talk to creditors, data assistants that surface case context for human agents, and document pipelines that read statements, offers, and legal notices.
- Design the evaluation systems that tell us whether our agents are actually getting better, not just whether they look good in a demo.
- Build thoughtful human-in-the-loop flows. At Retape, engineers own the product end-to-end, from API design to the UX of the review screen.
- Work directly with our system of record to give agents the context they need to act reliably.
What we're looking for
- Strong software engineering fundamentals. You write debuggable code and care about the systems around the model, not just the model.
- Hands-on experience shipping LLM-based products - prompting, evals, tool use, RAG, agentic workflows, with frontier or open models.
- Comfort across the stack: APIs, data pipelines, light frontend when needed.
- A bias toward shipping with quality. One thing in production beats five things on a whiteboard, but don't ship vibe-coded slop either.
Nice to have
- Voice AI, telephony, or conversational systems experience.
- Background in fintech, lending, or other regulated industries.
- Open-source work or side projects you can point to.
