Job Title: Head Coach - Fitness

Job Summary:
The Head Coach - Fitness is a leadership role responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive fitness programs designed to enhance the physical performance, well-being, and injury prevention of clients. This individual will lead a team of fitness coaches, collaborate with other performance staff, and ensure the delivery of cutting-edge, evidence-based training methodologies. The Head Coach will also be responsible for the strategic direction of the fitness department, ensuring alignment with the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Implementation: Design and implement periodized strength and conditioning programs tailored to the specific needs and goals of [target group].
- Develop and oversee the implementation of fitness assessments to evaluate physical capabilities and track progress.
- Incorporate principles of biomechanics, exercise physiology, and injury prevention into training programs.
- Ensure programs are adaptable to individual needs, limitations, and training phases.
- Stay abreast of the latest research and best practices in strength and conditioning, sports science, and fitness.
- Leadership and Team Management: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of fitness coaches, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Provide ongoing training, professional development opportunities, and performance evaluations for fitness staff.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures and protocols for the fitness department.
- Schedule and manage fitness coaching staff effectively to ensure adequate coverage and program delivery.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the fitness team.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate closely with sport coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, nutritionists to ensure integrated and holistic athlete/client development.
- Communicate effectively with athletes/clients, providing clear instructions, feedback, and motivation.
- Present fitness program philosophies and progress updates to stakeholders as required.
- Participate in regular meetings with relevant departments to ensure alignment and effective communication.
- Strategic Planning and Administration: Contribute to the development of the strategic goals and objectives for the fitness department.
- Manage the budget for equipment, supplies, and professional development within the fitness department.
- Oversee the maintenance and safety of the fitness facilities and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and organizational policies.
- Develop and implement data collection and analysis methods to track program effectiveness and inform future planning.
- Athlete/Client Development (as applicable): Provide direct coaching and instruction to athletes/clients as needed.
- Educate athletes/clients on proper exercise techniques, injury prevention strategies, and the importance of fitness for performance and well-being.
- Foster a positive and supportive training environment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Physiology, or a related field B.PEd or M.PEd
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in strength and conditioning or fitness coaching.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team of coaches or fitness professionals.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing effective fitness programs for [target group].
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive understanding of exercise physiology, biomechanics, anatomy, and injury prevention principles.
- Proficiency in various strength and conditioning methodologies, including Olympic lifting, powerlifting, plyometrics, speed and agility training, and cardiovascular conditioning.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire individuals and teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using fitness assessment tools and data analysis software.
- Commitment to ethical conduct and professional standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with specific athlete populations or within a particular sport.
- Advanced certifications or specialized training in relevant areas.
