Job Description
Under designated supervision, operates a cargo van or stake-and-pintle type motor vehicle with gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,000 pounds to 32,000 pounds. Vehicles are primarily driven for long-distance pickup and delivery of merchandise and may often cross state lines. Performs other related duties such as signing for and obtaining required receipts; checks merchandise for damage, overage or shortage; and loading and unloading merchandise, as required. (GVW is to be used as a guideline only. Critical to the grade level determination are the four factors: skills & knowledge, responsibility, physical effort and working conditions.)

Job Qualifications
Education: High school or equivalent. Experience: One year progressively responsible general experience. Two years of specialized experience operating a heavy-duty truck on long distance hauls. Must possess a valid automobile operator's license as required by local/state laws or military regulations and have a clean driving record for the last three years.

Major Duties
Operates a van or stake-and-pintle motor vehicle of 26,000 to 32,000 pounds in the pickup and delivery of merchandise which may include driving over turnpikes, freeways, and/or congested urban areas. Signs for and obtains required receipts for cargo; checks to ensure loads conform to receipts; and notes over, short, or damaged merchandise.
Loads and unloads vehicles as required, exercising responsibility for the safety and security of the cargo.
Performs preventive maintenance such as checking oil, tires, battery, lights, and general operating conditions, and reports and deficiencies noted in the checking or operation of assigned vehicle which are beyond the drivers capacity to correct. Checks vehicle for properly completed maintenance and repair work when picking up vehicle from a repair shop.
Maintains and posts pertinent forms in accordance with ESM 50-1, "Motor Vehicle Management." Must maintain U.S. Department of Transportation drivers daily log, and AAFES travel expense vouchers, as required.
May be required to make local deliveries/pickups as necessitated by the workload.
May be required to operate materials handling equipment (MHE) and perform other routine warehouse worker duties.
Ensures compliance with fire, safety, sanitation, and security regulations. Initiates work orders for repair and maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
