Role Summary
The Area Business Manager builds and maintains a network of referring hospitals, oncologists and haematologists in an assigned territory. The goal is to help eligible patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) reach CAR-T centres for evaluation and treatment. The role also drives awareness of CAR-T cell therapy among clinicians and the wider community in the territory.
Key Responsibilities
1. Referral network development
- Identify and map hospitals, oncology and haematology centres, and key treating physicians in the assigned territory.
- Build and sustain relationships with referring oncologists, haemato-oncologists, paediatric oncologists and hospital administrators.
- Visit referral hospitals regularly and maintain a structured call plan.
- Act as the single point of contact between referring centres and the CAR-T centre.
2. Patient referral facilitation
- Coordinate the referral pathway: sharing the centre's eligibility criteria, collecting clinical records, and scheduling consultations with the CAR-T treating team.
- Support patients and families with logistics: travel, appointment coordination, and information on the treatment journey, in coordination with the patient navigation team.
- Follow up with referring doctors on case status, in line with patient consent and privacy requirements.
- Track every referral from first contact through consultation, evaluation and treatment.
3. Awareness and education
- Organise and support CME programmes, doctor meets, tumour boards and webinars on CAR-T therapy, with the medical team and invited experts presenting the clinical content.
- Share approved educational material with clinicians, and support patient awareness and community outreach initiatives.
- Represent the centre at regional medical conferences and oncology forums.
4. Territory management and reporting
- Plan and manage territory travel efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of visits, referrals and conversion status in the CRM.
- Submit weekly and monthly reports covering activities, pipeline, challenges and market insights.
- Gather feedback and competitive intelligence on referral patterns and barriers to access (cost, distance, awareness, financing).
5. Cross-functional collaboration
- Work closely with the clinical team, medical affairs, patient navigation, finance/financial counselling and marketing teams.
Compliance and Ethics
- All interactions must follow applicable regulations, including NMC guidelines, the UCPMP, and the organisation's code of conduct.
- No inducements, incentives or gifts to healthcare professionals in exchange for referrals.
- Only approved, scientifically accurate and balanced materials may be used. No unapproved efficacy claims or guarantees of outcomes.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure consent in all patient-related communication.
- Clinical decisions on eligibility and treatment rest solely with the treating physicians.
Qualifications
- Education: BBA / B.Pharm/BSc (MBA or M.Pharm is an added advantage).
- Experience: up to 7 years in pharma, healthcare, hospital marketing or patient services. Internships in oncology or hospital settings are a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and presentation skills in English and Hindi, with working knowledge of regional languages as an advantage.
- Ability to build trust with senior physicians and handle rejection with persistence.
- Willingness to learn complex clinical concepts (haematological malignancies, cellular therapy).
- Empathy and sensitivity in dealing with patients and families facing serious illness.
- Self-driven, organised and comfortable with independent field work.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM tools.
- Integrity and ethical judgement.
Work Conditions
- Intense travel across the territory, including overnight trips.
- Valid driving licence preferred.
- Occasional weekend work for conferences and camps.
What We Offer
- Structured onboarding and training in oncology, haematology and CAR-T therapy.
- Opportunity to work at the frontier of cellular therapy in India.
- Clear career path toward Senior District Manager, Regional Manager and Patient Access leadership roles.
- Competitive fixed pay plus travel allowance. Any variable pay should be tied to activity and quality metrics, not to referral volume alone.
