SUMMARY:
This position provides support for the Arctic Slope Native Association Indian Child Welfare (ICWA)
Program. The intention of this position is to assist the programs in the village and support the ICWA
Programs goals and objectives. The expectations are to provide case specific assistance helping tribal
families and their children across the North Slope become self-sufficient. The support services are
provided in a collaborative effort with all agencies involved and in a manner that is safe, stable, culturally
relevant and community-based.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide intervention services for tribal children who are in State Custody or at imminent
risk of being taken into state custody and assist State of Alaska (SOA) Office of Children’s
Services (OCS) while they are investigating or visiting a home in the village. This is to
ensure the community and family that ASNA is assuring that OCS is adhering to ICWA;
• Gain a strong understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978
• Works closely with tribes, tribal members, and staff as needed to assist in coordination
of services;
• Provides prevention services, supervised parenting and tribal compact support;
• Participate in village community meetings to inform the public of ICWA Program services and issues;
• Assures confidentiality of client information;
• Attend required training on ICWA and child welfare related topics to stay informed on child
welfare issues and increase professional knowledge and skills;
• Complete SOA any scope of work requested by your direct supervisor involving a referral from the compact, Scopes of work; Family Contact, Initial Relative Search, Ongoing Placement Search, Safety Evaluation and Licensing Assist;
• Assist and support ASNA Social Services events scheduled and planned in the villages;
• Cooperates with public health agencies in planning and implementing medical care and treatment of abused children when necessary.
• Review for completeness all program applications for services to ensure required back up information is gathered to accurately reflect due process of eligibility of determination;
• Educate community members about programs offered by ASNA and connect them with resources as needed;
• Adhere to professional ethics of Social Work in working with families, co-workers, community members, State, Federal agencies and others;
• Using good judgment, provide record keeping administrative support for internal and external referrals in line with jointly prepared individualized steps needed to achieve stability and self-sufficiency;
• Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
• One year of Social Service work experience preferred; and
• One-year data entry and administrative support experience preferred.
