Role Description
The D365 Finance & Operations (F&O) System Administrator / Environment Manager is responsible for administering, monitoring, and optimizing all D365 F&O environments, ensuring availability, performance, security, and smooth delivery of changes across dev, test, UAT, and production. The role works closely with infrastructure, development, and functional teams to manage releases, support business operations, and maintain a stable and well-governed application landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain all D365 F&O environments (Production, Sandbox, UAT, Test, Dev), including configuration, environment refreshes, and general housekeeping.
- Manage environment strategy and topology (Tier‑2, Tier‑1, build environments), including capacity planning and coordination with the hosting provider or Microsoft.
- Coordinate and execute application updates, hotfixes, and cumulative updates via LCS, including scheduling, impact assessment, and smoke testing coordination.
- Own and operate the deployment pipeline, including build and release management, code promotion between environments, and alignment with ALM standards (Azure DevOps).
- Manage user provisioning and de‑provisioning, security roles, duties and privileges, and Segregation of Duties (SoD) policies in collaboration with security and audit teams.
- Monitor system health, performance, and integrations, proactively identify issues, and coordinate resolution with internal teams and Microsoft support.
- Coordinate environment refreshes and data copy activities between environments, including masking or anonymization of production data as per security and compliance policies.
- Support integrations (dual‑write, Data Management Framework, recurring data jobs, interfaces), monitor data flows, and work with integration teams to resolve failures.
- Maintain technical and operational documentation: environment inventories, deployment procedures, runbooks, configuration baselines, and change logs.
- Ensure adherence to change management processes, including CAB approvals, release calendars, deployment checklists, and rollback plans.
- Participate in incident and problem management, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventive and corrective actions.
- Support non‑functional requirements such as high availability, backup/restore strategy (via LCS and underlying platform), disaster recovery drills, and performance tuning activities.
- Partner with functional and technical leads to support project go‑lives, cutovers, and major releases, including dress rehearsals and hypercare activities.
Skills And Qualifications
- Strong hands‑on experience administering Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (or AX 2012 with transition to D365 F&O).
- Practical experience with Lifecycle Services (LCS), environment management, deployment, monitoring, and incident logging.
- Good understanding of D365 F&O architecture, environments, and ALM concepts (builds, releases, branches, code promotion).
- Experience with Azure DevOps (or similar) for build and release pipelines, work item tracking, and backlog management.
- Solid understanding of role‑based security in D365 F&O, including roles, duties, privileges, and SoD best practices.
- Familiarity with D365 data management (Data Management Framework, entities, recurring jobs) and common integration patterns.
- Exposure to performance monitoring and troubleshooting (e.g., telemetry, trace logs, performance tests, SQL/Azure aspects with partners).
- Strong coordination and communication skills to work with cross‑functional teams (infra, development, functional, business stakeholders).
- Experience working in ITIL‑based support environments (incident, problem, change management) is preferred.
