Job Summary
The Environmental Intern will report to the Regional Environmental Director and will support the Decatur, IL ADM Complex. While working in both an office and industrial facility environment, the Environmental Intern will support the plant operations teams in improving and maintaining the site’s environmental compliance programs and the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Position Responsibility:
The Environmental Intern’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Manage assigned projects for Summer 2026, with assistance from hiring manager and other EHS operations colleagues.
Shadow EHS staff members to learn day to day operations and environmental needs of ADM.
Assist with work related to permit applications and regulatory applicability analysis relating to air, land, water, and other environmental regulations and requirements
Assist with preparation of required reports and maintain all necessary records/documentation related to environmental programs for the facility
Observe/shadow EHS staff in internal and external environmental audits or environmental agency visits and assist team with findings for completion as needed.
Collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Prepare required reports and maintain all necessary records/documentation related to environmental programs for the facility.
Participate in, where appropriate, all internal and external environmental audits or environmental agency visits and prioritize, assign and track the audit findings for completion.
Assist with preparation of appropriate permit applications and regulatory applicability analysis relating to air, land, water, and other environmental regulations and requirements.
Assist with safety audits and contribute to continuous improvement of workplace safety practices.

Participate in and/or lead safety meetings, training sessions, and ops briefings.
Present findings, project results, and recommendations to engineering leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

Internship Program Requirements: 

Education: Pursuing a 4-year degree in Environmental Science, Biological Engineering or a related degree field.

GPA: Minimum GPA of 2.8 (3.0 GPA preferred).
Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Transportation: Interns must have their own reliable transportation to and from work.

Geographical Flexibility: Willing to relocate to one of our ADM locations in North America.

Background Check: Successful completion of a background check is required.

Physical Requirements: This experience is physically demanding, and suited for those who desire hands-on experience in an operations setting. Some tasks may require lifting, the ability to climb ladders, and working in confined spaces (including tanks and vessels).

Availability: Must be available for a summer internship from mid-May to early August 2026.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

$21 -$25 hourly rate is dependent on graduation date
