Description
The Pre-K Lead teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. The Lead Teacher will plan, implement, evaluate and supervise a safe, creative and developmentally appropriate classroom for children with active participation from other members of the teaching team. She/he works with parents and other staff to assess the needs of individual children and to ensure appropriate programming of activities using Archdiocese of Hartford Pre-School curriculum and requirements set by NAEYC. The Lead Teacher performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of All Saints Catholic Academy and the Archdiocese of Hartford.
Primary Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Plan, implement, evaluate and supervise a developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary framework with fellow Lead Teachers and all other teachers to ensure an effective instructional and creative program.
- Bilingual speaking staff will demonstrate their ability to understand, speak, read and write in both languages and use these skills with children and families in all aspects of their roles.
- Work cooperatively with other Lead Teachers to ensure a quality program for all children.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Plan classroom program activities in accordance with the philosophies and policies of according to the mission of All Saints and Archdiocese of Hartford.
- Plan for and implement instructional methods which motivate and enable each child to achieve learning objectives.
- Upon completion of referral forms and after having conferred with the Principal, will refer families to the Social Worker for Special Needs Services.
- Establish and maintain the environment required to motivate and to enable each child to achieve learning objectives.
- Maintain weekly experience plans and progress notes.
- Be diligent about documenting all incidents and noteworthy behaviors.
- Maintain weekly observational notes on children so as to track their progress and to plan accordingly to meet their needs.
- Actively participate in all meetings and in-service trainings.
- Perform general classroom housekeeping duties to include: preparing snacks, toileting children and general clean-up, etc.
- Complete and maintain all other required documentation and records.
- Complete and respond to request made by the Principal within 48 hours of a written request.
- Complete supply order forms and submit to Principal.
- Participate in planning parent trainings, parent meetings and workshops.
- Prepare for and conduct parent conferences three times a year.
- Accept membership in the National Association for the Education of Young Children and adhere to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Must abide by all All Saints Pre School policies and procedures.
- Be trained in Pediatric First Aid and CPR, Emergency Medication and Medication Administration
- Fifteen (15) hours of professional learning and required annually for teaching staff. Teachers must participate in a minimum of two professional development trainings each year focused on early childhood development, trauma informed practice or topics directly related to the field of early childhood education and one training in inclusive practices for children with disabilities and learning differences. New staff must have or obtain specific training in pre-literacy skill development and in racial and ethnic diversity within one year of hire.
Requirements
- Meet the requirements of a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. Early Childhood Teacher Credential (ECTC) Certified.
- Meet all the Professional Development requirements by NAEYC.
- Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing, etc.) to enhance the child’s abilities.
- Evaluate children's' performance to ensure positive learning development.
- Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children/have excellent communication skills.
- Have a positive attitude.
- Be able to kneel and play on the floor with children for extended periods.
- Be able to lift up to 30 lbs. up to 20 times a day.
- Work cooperatively with all other teachers in the classroom.
- Be able to participate in all staff trainings, monthly staff meetings and recommended educational trainings.
- Be a team player and enjoy collaboration.
- Be willing to take direction, instruction and be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
- Be willing to perform other duties as required by the Principal, social worker and Archdiocese of Hartford.
- Patience, flexibility and love for children.
- Strong time management skills.
Personal Qualities and Special Characteristics
- Be physically able to perform the job of a preschool teacher (e.g. able to lift children and/or equipment up to 30 lbs., able to stoop, bend, sit or stand for extended periods of time).
- Have a warm, supportive, attitude towards children.
- Be reliable.
- Be respectful and professional when dealing with colleagues and families.
- Be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
- Arrive to be in the classroom ready to work at the beginning of the day and remain until your shift is complete.
