GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Green Career Navigator will be responsible for developing localized career pathways tracks into the green trades, helping job seekers understand the career pathways developed, and provide case management to individuals interested in joining the green trades. This position will work closely with career service teams, case management teams, and business services teams within their local workforce center to support the DRCOG program efforts. This position will also work with other DRCOG vendors and other Green Career Navigators across the Green Workforce Collaborative to ensure services are aligned across all workforce centers.

DUTIES:

  • Create localized career pathways tracks into the green trades that include schools, work-based learning programs, and employers.
  • Conduct targeted outreach and recruitment including presentations at schools, events and partner organizations to promote awareness of green trades career opportunities.
  • Provide career coaching, job readiness support, and in many circumstances case management services to individuals interested in entering the green trades.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with employers, training providers, and community partners to understand workforce needs and identify opportunities.
  • Organize workshops, job fairs, and networking events to connect job seekers with employers.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant-related performance and reporting requirements which include but is not limited to monitoring performance metrics such as training completions, credential attainment, job placement, and retention outcomes.
  • Stay current on green sector trends, local labor market needs, and emerging opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Initiative – must accurately identify internal and external customer needs. Maintains high level of productivity and self-direction. Must be willing to be proactive with outreach and engagement.
  • Knowledge/Technical Skills – must have adequate keyboarding, spelling/grammar and intermediate computer literacy. Will develop proficiency in use of office and program specific software. Must have working knowledge of career assessments, guidance and job search methods. 
  • Planning and Organizing – must have proficient calendaring, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Communication – Demonstrate effective oral and written communication. 
  • Judgement/Decision Making – Must make decisions congruent with program and agency goals, laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.
  • Interpersonal Communication – Communicates with all internal and external customers with professionalism, accountability, and integrity.

Education and Experience:  

  • Any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience totaling 4 years will be considered, such as HS diploma + 4 years’ experience, Associates + 2 years, or Bachelors. 

 

Relevant experience includes working in workforce development, working with customers with barriers to employment in counseling, training, vocational education, rehabilitation, teaching or related setting, and/or experience working within a green trade. 

 

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Spends 50% of the time sitting and 50% of the time either standing or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.
