About Origin
Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India's most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc.
About The Role
The Apprentice Engineer role is for high-potential early-career engineers with a relentless passion for hardware. You will not be watching from the sidelines; you will be directly responsible for critical subsystems of our power tools. Under the guidance of Senior Engineers, you will write production firmware, design breakout boards, and heavily test our robotic end-effectors.
Key Responsibilities -
Hardware Modification:
- Assist in the teardown and reverse-engineering of construction power tools
- Wire, solder, and assemble electromechanical interfaces between the robot arm and the tool
Module Firmware Development:
- Develop and maintain C/C++ drivers for specific sensors (e.g., pressure sensors, RPM encoders) attached to the tools
- Write robust communication scripts to validate tool APIs over CAN or Serial
- Optimize existing microcontroller code for speed and memory efficiency
PCB & Prototyping:
- Design simple-to-medium complexity breakout boards and sensor conditioning PCBs
- Rigorously test tools on the workbench, capturing data on latency, power draw, and thermal limits
Requirements
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- 0-2 years of experience (strong internship or project portfolio demonstrating hardware hacking is required)
- Strong fundamentals in C/C++ and pointer arithmetic
- Hands-on experience with basic PCB design (Eagle, KiCad)
- Exceptional tinkering skills: you should be comfortable wielding a soldering iron, a multimeter, and a Dremel
- Proven ability to build mechatronic systems (e.g., combat robots, drones, FSAE)
Preferred Experiences
- Experience programming ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers bare-metal
- Familiarity with logic analyzers to decode SPI/I2C signals
For apprentice/Intern :
This is a six-month contract-to-hire position, with potential for longer-term opportunities depending on your contributions and interests. We're excited to work with motivated individuals who are eager to support real-world robot development and grow alongside us.
