Role Overview
We are looking for an Applications Specialist (Surgical) who will be responsible for providing clinical, technical, and educational support for phacoemulsification (phaco) systems used in cataract surgeries. The role focuses on conducting product demonstrations, hands-on training, and assisting surgeons, operating room (OR) staff, and biomedical teams in the effective use of the phaco machine. In addition to clinical support, the specialist collaborates with the sales team to promote and support the sale of phaco systems by showcasing their clinical benefits and technical advantages. The position ensures optimal system setup and performance during demos and live surgeries, contributes to customer satisfaction, and drives business growth through strong clinical and sales alignment. The position demands a high degree of travel to various hospitals, surgical centres, and training facilities, ensuring consistent clinical support and driving business growth through strong clinical and sales alignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Support- Assist surgeons and OR staff during cataract surgeries to ensure proper use of the phaco system. Provide real-time troubleshooting and guidance to optimise surgical outcomes. Demonstrate various phaco modes and fluidics principles to achieve efficient and safe performance.
- Training, Demonstrations & Education- Conduct product demonstrations in hospitals and training centres to highlight the systemβs clinical performance and features. Organise workshops and wet-lab sessions to enhance user experience and skill development. Deliver engaging training sessions and clinical presentations to surgeons, nurses, and technicians. Emphasise product differentiation and safety during demonstrations to support purchase decisions.
- Sales Collaboration- Partner with the sales team to support product evaluations, trials, and clinical presentations. Provide clinical expertise and demonstration support to help convert prospects into customers. Participate in product launches, exhibitions, and clinical marketing events as a technical specialist.
- Technical Assistance- Set up and calibrate phaco systems before and during surgical procedures. Ensure correct assembly and functioning of accessories (handpieces, tubing sets, foot pedal, etc.). Coordinate with service teams for preventive maintenance, repairs, or equipment upgrades.
- Customer Relationship Management- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with surgeons, nurses, and hospital staff. Gather clinical feedback and communicate insights to product management and marketing teams. Support new product evaluations and clinical trials.
- Compliance & Documentation- Adhere to hospital safety protocols and company quality standards. Maintain accurate documentation of surgeries supported, demonstrations conducted, and training completed.
- Travel Commitment- Be prepared for extensive travel across assigned regions to support surgeries, conduct demos, and participate in workshops or product evaluations. Flexibility to travel on short notice and manage irregular schedules based on surgical needs.
Preferred Equipment Exposure
Hands-on exposure to a phacoemulsification machine is strongly preferred.

Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech or B.Sc. in a related technical discipline with relevant experience
- 2β6 years of total experience
- Prior experience as a Surgical Application Specialist is preferred
- Experience with reputed ophthalmic companies or institutions will be an added advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of phacoemulsification workflows and equipment usage in OR
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to demonstrate, wetlab and provide on-call support to surgeons
- Comfortable with frequent travel
- Collaborative mindset and customer-focused approach
